    » When the news broke on Oct 13 last year that the much beloved King Bhumibol had died, the nation was in for the biggest heartbreak of our generation. People reacted with feverish emotion, with some bursting into tears and others beginning to pray. But National Artist Prof Emeritus Preecha Thaothong grabbed his brush and poured his grief onto canvas. He spent that entire night painting and, the next morning, ended up with a portrait of the revered monarch.

To celebrate the diplomatic relationship between Thailand and the Ukraine, the Bangkok Art and Cultural Centre (BACC) will be hosting the "Voice Of My Soul" exhibition, a showcase of the works of world-renowned Ukranian artist Ivan Marchuk. Hailed as one of the maestros of the modern art world, Marchuk is the only Ukranian artist to be recognised by the prestigious International Academy of Modern Art in Rome, Italy and has produced more than 5,000 works of art, divided into 12 collections, five of which will be on display at the BACC. The exhibition will begin on Oct 31 at 4pm, and will end on Nov 12.

    » Highlight: The opening ceremony was presided over by Minister of Tourism and Sports Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, who along with many other guests stylishly dressed in apparel featuring the fashion label's signature prints. Running till tomorrow, the exhibition showcases the veteran designer's prowess in painting, using synthetic enamel on silver and gold plates in creating the collection of 37 abstract paintings. A part of the proceeds from selling the paintings and scarves designed by Nagara will go to Siriraj Foundation in helping needy patients.

    » 1 Vive La France! From this month forward, citizens of Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, India and Russia won't have to wait 10 days for their visa delivery time. The French government has now significantly reduced visa delivery times to merely 48 hours in order to try to increase the number of foreign tourists following a dramatic dip due to the wave of terrorist attacks in 2016. This year, the country is targeting 89 million tourists from 83 million last year, and plans to bring in 100 million tourists in 2020.
