Burnout rate shows price of success

News, Published on 01/05/2024

» The search for success can be elusive, and possibly nowhere more so than in Singapore, one of the most competitive and overworked places on the planet. It'll take more than patriotism to save the ringgit

News, Daniel Moss, Published on 28/03/2024

» Malaysia wants to be great again, at least in foreign exchange. The nation's currency recently approached a level seen as near-catastrophic during the Asian financial crisis of the late 1990s. Authorities insist the ringgit is way too cheap and blame forces outside the country, chiefly high interest rates in the US. The remedies are modest, compared with the shock therapy meted out a couple of decades ago.

Thai Mental Health Initiative: Fight Depression Together

Published on 14/03/2024

» Bangkok Insurance and the Department of Mental Health, Ministry of Public Health, recognise the importance of mental health, particularly the increasing prevalence of depression and its social implications. To address this issue, they have collaborated to organise a press conference under the theme "Promoting Mental Health for Sustainable Protection." The objective was to raise public awareness about depression and educate family members and caregivers on providing compassionate care to sufferers. Additionally, a commercial advertisement was released portraying depression not as a mere emotional response but as a treatable illness by mental health professionals. The advertisement features narratives from two individuals: Mr. Pongkool Suebsung, also known as Pop-Pongkool, a humorous artist, and Mr. Natee Ekwijit, also known as Oui-Buddha Bless, who shared his experience as a therapist. The press conference took place at The Glass House, Nai Lert Park, on March 6, 2024.

Are electric cars driving into a dead end?

Oped, Published on 02/02/2024

» In the early 1990s, every self-respecting American yuppie and retired suburban couple bought an electric bread maker, with sales hitting four million units. But the fad soon faded as these amateur bakers discovered that stuffing a precise quantity and ratio of flour, eggs, butter, yeast, and salt into a metal box takes time and costs much more than strolling to the corner bakery. Are plug-in electric vehicles (EVs) the breadmakers of our day?

Why are so many young Chinese people depressed?

Oped, Published on 04/01/2024

» China's high youth unemployment rate and increasingly disillusioned young people -- many of whom are "giving up" on work -- have attracted much attention from media outlets and Chinese policymakers. The narrative is to associate the problem with the country's recent growth slowdown. In fact, the issue goes much deeper.
