Sports LUX variations

Life, Samila Wenin, Published on 01/05/2014

» Sports chic is now — there’s no doubt about it. From drawstrings to mesh, and from hoodies to sports stripes, the 1990s that ushered in the worldwide live broadcast of European league football left the post-millennium fashion enthusiasts with the zombie of a trend that is resurrected once every two years whenever the Olympic or the Fifa World Cup is on the go.

Reviving a nostalgic fantasy

Life, Samila Wenin, Published on 17/07/2013

» First released in 1991 on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), the forth installment of the world’s best loved Role Playing Game series, Final Fantasy IV holds a special position in the heart of those RPG aficionados whose gaming life didn’t begin with the invention of PlayStation, and whose love affair with the genre didn’t begin with the slightly overrated Final Fantasy VII.

» From The Beatles' mod suits to the punk gear flaunted by the Sex Pistols, music-inspired fashion dominates at least one chapter in each era of the history of style. And 20 years ago, in the final decade of the 20th century amid a stream of minimalism and American sportswear, Kurt Cobain gave flannel shirts and striped jumpers their place in that history, pioneering a look that continues to symbolise the musical genre he and his band spearheaded.

Hail to the Highlands!

Life, Samila Wenin, Published on 13/12/2012

» The Scots don't say the word "loch" the way we do. It's the first and most obvious difference I spot soon after boarding the coach on a journey to the Highlands, and it became the first Scottish Gaelic way of pronunciation I have unconsciously adopted ever since. It's pronounced with a fricative sound, with the back of the tongue against the soft palate like the way the German pronounce "Bach".
