» The United Nations is taking a meaningful step tonight. Its UN High Commission on Refugees is to launch a new project, "Every Child's Right to a Nationality". Recently, the UNHCR named Thailand as one of its few official "Friends of the Campaign to End Statelessness". That should not cloud us from acknowledging existing hurdles. It is true that there are legal changes to help stateless people becoming Thai citizens. For all that, much more effort is still needed.

» Over the past several years and governments, Thailand has fallen behind the rest of the world when it comes to tackling money laundering. The "world", in this case the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), is on the verge of putting the country on a "dark-grey list" _ not quite a blacklist, but close enough. The FATF warned the government and the financial community in February that it should pass and start enforcing three laws which deal mostly with keeping terrorists away from international markets.
