    Don't punish at-risk girls

    News, Editorial, Published on 21/08/2015

» Measures to prevent teen pregnancy should not punish the girls at risk. But the draft bill by the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) is doing just that.

    #PrayForThailand

Guru, Napamon Roongwitoo, Published on 21/08/2015

» About a week ago, I told my friend I didn't ever want my kid to grow up. She agreed, saying it's probably irresponsible to bring a new life into this kind of world. Our reasons were simple -- the ever-worsening traffic, people's deceitfulness, cruel climate change and just the struggle of life in general. Try getting through Friday evening traffic on payday when it rains on Sukhumvit Road -- you'll see what I mean. Or read this issue's cover story, which pretty much sums it up.

    Don't believe the hashtag hype

Life, Arusa Pisuthipan, Published on 21/08/2015

» Kim Kardashian has over 42 million followers on Instagram -- the equivalent of the combined population of Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia. So whenever she hits her keypad and opines on her social network account, it definitely has an impact on her fans in one way or another. And that is probably the reason why the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) felt extra worried after they saw the 34-year-old American TV personality, who is now five months pregnant with her second baby, posted on her personal Instagram account earlier this month about how she coped with, as she put it, #morningsickness.

    Meet Bangkok's best BBQ

Guru, Adam Kohut, Published on 21/08/2015

» A blue neon sign lures the hungry into The Smokin' Pug, which is perhaps Bangkok's only true American barbecue restaurant. There are chains offering pale imitations of the fabled cuisine, but that, to an eye even remotely trained, reveal themselves to be imposters, cowering behind shields of rubbery steak, smothered in a viscous armour of cloying, pre-bottled sauce.

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 21/08/2015

» Whether you're a burger fanatic who is frustrated over the use of processed cheese on top of your Wagyu patty, a steak lover whose blood pressure rises every time you have to explain what you meant when you ordered your rib-eye "bleu", or just an ordinary foodie who appreciates good food and good wine, the World Gourmet Festival (WGF) is truly an unmissable event.

    Down with comics

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 21/08/2015

» From the 1970s onwards, a huge number of Thai children have grown up reading Japanese comic books that formed a big part of their pop-cultural upbringing. Thai publisher Vibulkij led the charge by becoming the first to actually acquire licenses to publish comic books in Thailand in 1992. Adopting the Japanese model of releasing weekly magazines containing single chapters from various series, Vibulkij launched Friday, Thailand's first weekly manga magazine. These magazines gave readers the advantage of reading ahead of the collected volumes, of which only several were released each year for each series.
