» Yesterday I flew back to England, it gave me an interesting insight into the changes affecting Thailand and the world in general. I had been booked to fly back by Gulf Air but two day before my flight I received an urgent email from my booking agent, "contact the Gulf Bangkok office there has...

    Stimulating the economy

By kngdady, Created on: 24/03/2009, Last updated on: 22/12/2010

» One way to make money for the country is to establish a gaming zone such as Phuket or in a resort area. I believe most countries have some form of gambling from hourse races to lotterys. The money brought in through gaming can help fund a varity of projects such as education, improving infastructure...

Farang and their seemingly paradoxical ways

By Mr. Surin Province, Created on: 17/10/2008, Last updated on: 17/04/2010

» As a long-historied Farang resident myself, comfortable and understanding, I have to ask the age old question regarding Westerners that find it necessary to stay/live here while finding life so objectionable in many ways. Why is this so? I've experienced this throughout Asia {in particular the LOS}...

    • stilljustbrowsing commented : never cold) and seeing banana trees, orchids, a multitude of different birds and butterflies makes my heart sing every day I wake up and see them all anew. What annoys me? I am a professional aircraft engineer (licenced) with many years of experience but cannot be employed by a Thai airline. Why? Thai Government legislation. ( I can understand job protection for the locals, but when experience and help is also thrown in the bin then there is something wrong with the system.) At the same time, Thais with the same qualifications CAN WORK IN EUROPE AND ARE ACCEPTED WITH OPEN ARMS. Thaksin Bought Man City, Can A farang buy a Thai football team? Harrods, a London shopping must see is owned by an Arab! Does England protest? (No) It goes on and on. So could I. So before anyone else starts ripping into us Farangs, Think about what we have to endure to stay with our loved ones in a country we love that we can never call 'home' because of beaurocracy. I am not even going to talk about the 90 day thing. (yet)

    • stilljustbrowsing commented : I love to see the variety of trees, flowers, birds and butterflies that abound in Thailand, my country of choice. Unfortunately, there are some that cannot differentiate between those that love the country and want to be a part of it, to those that wish to exploit it. In short, if I didn't or don't care about Thailand, I would not bother to post at all. Culture is important, and should never be forgotten. However, the world changes and without acceptance of some of the changes, there are those that get left behind. This in itself opens a flood of questions as to why one should need to change anyway, but this is life, and some call it progress. So rememberance of the past is important, but always keep an eye on the future, or else we go the way of the dinosaur perhaps?

Why do ONLY foreigners get special promotion?

By Anonymous, Created on: 28/01/2008, Last updated on: 05/02/2014

    • fast eddy commented : ttery numbers from looking at trees and (get this) pigs! I have no problem with this whatsoever as the cub Kao lady (the mobile shop) in my village in Nonthaburi won the lottery twice by such non-scientific methods. What was annoying was that she bought a ticket numbered the same as my wife's motorbike registration (which she had seen in her dream the night before) and won. Not only that but a few months later she saw the registration of my pick-up truck in a dream and won again!! Thais do sometimes suffer from the 'special prices' though. An example that springs to mind is the special prices promted by some five star hotels and resorts which have deals for tourists but not for the natives. I have read of this a number of times over the years but having said that they get their own back by charging higher prices at other resorts for tourists when compared to natives - see! You've got to get yourself into the trading chain somehow or you will forever end up the victim For as a Jewish friend of mine once said, 'Why did God invent Gentiles? Someone has to pay retail!!' cheers Fast Eddy

if married in thailand can she claim for half of what you own in uk

By Anonymous, Created on: 08/09/2007, Last updated on: 02/11/2007

» if married in thailand i am a uk man she is thai lady can she have a claim on my property and my bussiness if we were to divorce

    • Anonymous commented : hi john , good post and one i find no fault with , the only thing i would add is that many thai farang marriage,s go haywire for many reasons , this is just a few , lack of self respect, poor judgement of character , rushing headlong into the unknown too quickly , thinking with whats between your legs not your ears , not understanding that a farang to a thai lady is like a lottery win and therefore YOU have all the trump cards , how you play them is entirely down to you ,lending money to her family, for me this is real disaster when they can,t or won,t pay it back and your wife sides with the family cos afterall you did,nt have to work for it but got it from the money tree, falling for all the BS she gives you , for instance , she,s going to leave you etc , anyone with half a brain should know theres no way she,ll abandon " khun jackpot", my life here in issan is second to none , and my wife is a little gem without a doubt , but i,d like to believe that it was my polishing that made her what she is today , regards ,colin .
