    A good old punch-up

    News, Postbag, Published on 22/10/2016

» Back in the 1970s, my mates and fellow supporters of Millwall FC liked nothing better than a good old punch-up before, after and during a game, well lubricated by a couple of dozen pints of beer of course. One time I laid into this bloke so badly that the judge put me away for grievous bodily harm. Football hooligans they called us. But now thanks to Gen Paiboon Koomchaya I know the judge got it all wrong. It was just performing social sanctions against the "other side". It makes me feel so much better. I think I will just nip out and beat up the first person I meet who disagrees with anything I say.

Having moved successfully from "less developed" to "middle income" level, the country is stubbornly refusing to make the second jump to "fully developed" status. Thailand is well and truly caught in what is called the "middle income trap".
