    Expectations vs Reality

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 06/09/2019

» It's always a challenge to be in a new country because things may be done differently from where you come from. There are a few things you may think are universally accepted only to have your thinking completely blown into smithereens once you're in a new country. It's pretty much the same with living in Thailand.

    Green thumb

» Maybe a few of us have forgotten the smog that engulfed us in the beginning of the year, making leaving the house a game of "to choke or not to choke". Now it is the scorching heat that seems to be worse than before. While short-term solutions do a little to elevate, we know that the root of the problem is climate change. If we don't take action now, it's going to get worse later. Bangkok has its share of eco-problems whether it's pollution or waste, but instead of listing them, we can figure out ways of how we can help, even in small doses. And technology has made this easier. Guru has listed a few of the best apps in the climate change business to help you help the environment.

    Quick & easy

» Mexican cuisine isn't new to Bangkok. It's pretty accessible and there are a number of different restos to choose from so it's not exactly something you have to search for. Bowlito sits comfortably in the middle of the cheap Mexican fast food eats and the expensive ones.

    Better and badder

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 26/04/2019

» Tom Clancy's The Division had a concept that got gamers excited and though the game was generally well-received, it didn't exactly live up to all our expectations. We're learning more and more not to trust so-called "in-game footage" shown at events like E3 anyway. Its sequel, Tom Clancy's The Division 2, promised a more satisfying story and endgame. So did it deliver?

    Summer treats

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 03/05/2019

» If you're like me, you've probably been asking the same thing for the past month or so now: when is this heat going to end? I know I'm supposed to be used to it living in Bangkok but I think we can all agree that the heat is terrible and that our weather apps are lying when they say it only 35°C outside. However, we do have a decision to make, either we let the heat get to us (which it already has, kind of) or we can enjoy what the summer has to offer: a number of seasonal summer treats. Yes, this heat has made it ripe for a number of treats to come out of the woodwork, enticing us to enjoy them. And so, because we truly do love you, dear readers, we've done the heavy lifting and tried some of these treats for you. Which ones should you try and which ones should you stay away from?

    New York style goodness

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 01/03/2019

» Authentic New York-style pizzas are in short supply here in the Big Mango. However, they're slowly but surely making their way into the market. Soho Pizza is one of the few places where you can get your NY-style pizza craving satisfied. Located on Sukhumvit 11, Soho Pizza is making the 18-inch pizza even more accessible to Bangkokians and we are eternally grateful.

    Modern love

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 08/02/2019

» It's almost that time of the year again when couples come out of their love nests in droves as they celebrate St Valentine's Day. This usually means that restaurants all over the city will be filled with couples celebrating the Day of Love (or Day of IDGAF -- depending on how you see it). This year, dare to be different. We at GURU are issuing you a challenge: do better. Well, it's not exactly a challenge since we're telling you what you can do, but if you want a different Valentine's Day experience then we've got you covered. (PS If you're not the risk-taker we think you are, turn a few pages to see our picks of where to eat on this day of love).

    Don't look down!

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 07/12/2018

» The Big Mango is home to a beautiful skyline and a number of towering skyscrapers. A casual walk along Sukhumvit or Sathon and a glance upwards will prove this to be true, but towering behemoths aren't enough these days. The latest trend are skywalks and high-elevated walkways -- clear glass-bottomed floors that give you an unhindered sight of the many, many feet below, turn your legs to jelly and make your stomach turn. Of course, many are braving these side effects for the sake of a great photo and IG post. Are you willing to take on these heights for 'Gram? Pick one of the five or visit all and test your mettle.
