    Creamalicious

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 20/07/2018

» When you walk into 7-Eleven and head over to their refrigerated items (usually where those quick meals and sandwiches are), you'll find vanilla and chocolate eclairs that are pretty good. The only problem is that "cream puffs" would be the more correct term to describe them. An eclair has an elongated, oblong shape that's filled with cream but also topped with icing, and this is the misconception that Lightning Choux is setting out to correct.

» We are smack in the middle of the World Cup, and unlike Americans who use phrases like "World Series" or "World Champions" despite having only American participants, the majority of the world is actually involved in this tournament. There's only about two weeks left, but there are a lot of matches to watch and a whole lot of World Cup to keep you going. Fortunately, Bangkok is high on the World Cup fever, and we've got a number of places you can visit to keep that high.

    Oriental simplicity

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 29/06/2018

» On the 27th floor of 137 Pillars, Nimitr Restaurant is adorned beautifully in a regal dark blue that makes the entire place shine and shimmer. Add the high ceiling with modern lights and a fantastic view and you've got yourself a pretty snazzy and hip dining venue for lunch or dinner. Fancy dining in the open air? You can head out to the balcony where they've also got a bar. At first glance, you may think the place is a little swanky and that you're entering a high-class dining restaurant. Despite the feeling of sophistication the place brings up, Nimitr is not a hi-so dining establishment and actually wants you to sit back, relax and enjoy your meal. Besides, who would complain about having such a pretty place to dine in? It just means a lot of IG-worthy opportunities.

    Going green

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 22/03/2018

» T  he air in Bangkok has been horrendous these past couple of months and we can’t help but feel like we’re basically inhaling exhaust fumes. The difference in air quality is so evident that when you go to another country and take a huge whiff of oxygen, you actually get a bit of a high because the air is cleaner than what you’re usually used to. We can go on complaining, something you all know we’re really good at, or we can find ways to be part of the solution instead of being whiny toddlers. These businesses are providing us the opportunity to do just that.

    Adrenaline boosters

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 26/01/2018

» Bangkok can be a paradoxical city. Everyone pretty much takes it easy and everything is sabai sabai and though that's mostly a good thing, there are times you want some excitement. On the other hand, sometimes you walk out of the office after a gruelling day only to be met by the headache-inducing commute of a crowded train or heavy traffic. So how do you get your dose of excitement and at the same time let off some steam? Perhaps you go to the gym. Perhaps you and your friends gather for one or two friendly matches of football. Perhaps going to the bar for drinks is exciting and de-stressing enough for you. But this week, we've compiled a list of places and things you can do that are a little out of the norm. Time to get your blood pumping.

    Just a couple of foodies

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 09/02/2018

» It's that time of the year when couples come out in full-force, restaurants are jampacked, roses and chocolates are more expensive, and single people are more bitter than usual. Yes, St Valentine's Day is upon us and that means couples all over the place. We could have just given you a list of places you could go to for a special dinner (actually, we did -- check our Food listings). But in lieu of the upcoming "festivities", if you could call it that, we decided to round up a number of foodie power couples to get to know their favourite restos and what they do during on this romantic day. Perhaps we noobs could learn a thing or two from them.

    I'm turning Japanese

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 01/12/2017

» The setting: 72 Courtyard is not a stranger to restaurants and foodie destinations. There's a number of choices for you depending on what you're craving for and one of them is called Lucky Fish. This Japanese fusion resto, which recently revamped its menu, is on the ground floor on the left at the very front of 72 Courtyard and is designed to give off a subtle modern Japanese vibe. You can choose to dine and drink over at the bar or perhaps in one of the open air tables where you can pity those stuck in Thong Lor traffic. If you don't feel a strong Japanese vibe from the aesthetics (which we think is something they weren't going for anyway) then the food will definitely change your mind.

The new kids on the block

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 07/07/2017

» Bangkok is a huge and sprawling city with sights and wonders that captivate the tourist and resident alike. And there are some equally odd spots that would catch the interest of... well, some. The Big Mango is huge -- and it's not called the "Big" Mango for nothing, you know. There are places opening up all the time that give Bangkokians an inexhaustible list of things to do or places to visit. This week, we here at Guru give you six new places that have recently opened their doors to the public. Pay ‘em a visit, why don't you?

    It's Jamba time

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 04/08/2017

» There's a fear that's associated with embarking on the journey of trying to eat healthy. People usually think that means giving up a lot of things they like and replacing it with things that aren't so tasty and perhaps even downright awful. While the former may be true, the latter definitely isn't and we can say that with absolute certainty after having tried Jamba Juice.
