It's all about Thaksin

News, Voranai Vanijaka, Published on 18/08/2013

» Over the past two years or so, anti-government groups have launched many rallies and campaigns to regain power. Thus far, they've all failed to gain much momentum.

Let the voice of reason prevail

Voranai Vanijaka, Published on 04/07/2013

» Having attended several rallies by the red-shirt United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) over the years, one thing has become abundantly clear - when on the stage, UDD chairwoman Tida Tawornseth doesn’t receive nearly the response and applause that Jatuporn Prompan does.

There are no 'buffaloes'

Voranai Vanijaka, Published on 20/06/2013

» In this heated political divide, the mud-slinging includes terms like "yellow/multi-colour buffalo fascists, brainwashed tools of the ammart" and "red buffalo thugs, brainwashed tools of Thaksin [Shinawatra]". Such insulting, derogatory branding is not only unfair and in poor taste, it’s also a gross generalisation that carries little truth.

Voranai Vanijaka, Published on 06/06/2013

» It’s rather interesting, this Guy Fawkes phenomenon that has sprung up among the Thai social network populace who oppose Thaksin Shinawatra and the Pheu Thai regime.

UDD can bring us change to believe in

News, Voranai Vanijaka, Published on 19/05/2013

» The accusation is often made that Thailand can never change. However, over the past six years, propelled by political crisis, there have been many changes, which some some would say are for the better. Tune in to change by television courts

News, Voranai Vanijaka, Published on 28/04/2013

» On Tuesday, 300 citizens travelled 200km from Prachuap Khiri Khan province to rally in front of the Appeal Court and demand transparency in the case of environmental activist Charoen Wat-aksorn, who was assassinated on June 21, 2004. Meanwhile, hundreds of red shirt United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship members were holding their own rally in front of the Constitution Court, part of a campaign to gather at least 20,000 names for a petition asking the National Anti-Corruption Commission to clear the entire court bench of nine judges.

Democracy loses in halls of parliament

News, Voranai Vanijaka, Published on 21/04/2013

» In theory, a democratic nation is governed by three branches: the executive, judicial and the parliamentary or legislative. In Thailand's reality, the country is governed formally by those three institutions, but also informally by two other institutions, the military and what we shall term as the "old establishment".

Power of the three

News, Voranai Vanijaka, Published on 07/04/2013

» Shifting alliances, it's deliciously Machiavellian. There are no BFFs (best friends forever) in politics. Don't be surprised if the old establishment, the military and the Thaksin Shinawatra political machine make a pact to govern Thailand as a triumvirate, leaving the Democrat Party out in the cold. Don't be surprised if negotiations are already under way to achieve that.
