» We open the doors to sweet symphonic music, which sets our mood for the guided tour of the exhibition. On entering the new section of Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles (QSMT) _ the main space has been open to the public since May last year as a learning centre about textiles _ we had to pinch ourselves that we hadn't walked into the Mad Hatter's tea party.

Corpse found in sea near Koh Larn

» Marine Police off the coast of Koh Larn pulled the body of an unidentified man found floating near Rai Kwang beach. The dead man was wearing only green shorts and was not carrying any identification.  Investigators believe he may have been a fisherman who was murdered and thrown overboard during a quarrel. The body was sent for autopsy.

Illegal sex pills impounded

» Following a tip-off from a stool pigeon, police raided three pharmacies in Central Pattaya that were selling the sex-enhancing drug Kamagra. Staff at the three retail outlets admitted they knew about the pills which were brought secretly to Pattaya from a Bangkok factory. They added that most of the sales went to older foreigners who didn’t care whether the pills were authentic or not, just as long as they worked.  Statements from staff were taken at the police station and the matter referred to the prosecutor’s office.

Thai and US sailors train in Sattahip

Deadly virus alert issued for Chonburi

» There has not been even one case of the coronavirus detected in Thailand, yet Chonburi health officials have been ordered to be on high alert for the deadly disease, particularly in Pattaya and other tourist centers. Pradit Sintavanarong, health minister, said patients with serious respiratory symptoms in all provinces will be monitored for Middle East respiratory syndrome corona virus (MERS-CoV), and that hospitals are prepared to receive suspected cases. Likewise, the Public Health Ministry is ready to deal with the disease. Thai Muslims and Arabs are most at-risk for contracting the SARS-like coronavirus. According to the World Health Organization, more than 70 such cases and 39 deaths have been reported—mostly in Saudi Arabia and also in Jordan, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Tunisia, United Kingdom, France, Germany and Italy. Consequently, anyone traveling through those countries—including those planning to visit Mecca for the Hajj–may be vulnerable.
