Hunting for rice bowls

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 17/02/2017

» For those of you familiar with poke, you'll know that this rice bowl trend has been fast and hard-hitting the East and West Coast of the US, as well as Australia. It's no surprise that this healthy option is quickly becoming the next big thing. After all -- what with the rise of clean-eating and the guilt-trips that we continue to inflict on ourselves every time we see those skinny b**ches in yoga pants -- this certainly makes sense.

    Moly says Moo

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 20/01/2017

» Dainty-looking gourmet pies probably come to mind when you mention the name "Holy Moly". The making of a soi

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 09/12/2016

» 2016 has been full of ups and downs, highs and lows. It has, without a doubt, been an interesting year to say the least. So we can't help but wonder what 2017 has in store for us. Will Trump stick to his policies? Who knows. Will there be another car-related Thai hi-so drama for the public to scrutinise? Most likely. What is certain for Bangkokians though, is that our city will continue to change its landscape. Sadly, we think it may be for the worse, seeing as the new Bangkok governor's agenda includes projects to remove street vendors from Silom, Siam Square and Pratunam.

    Snitching on schnitzel's

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 02/12/2016

» The setting: Alright, alright, we know what you were thinking when you saw the name. But no, this most definitely is not a German restaurant. And yes, although they do serve up pork schnitzel and sauerkraut, other delicacies like pork knuckle and stollen cakes are not on the menu. Located at the quiet end of Soi 38, this dainty and unassuming restaurant could have been mistaken for a small coffee shop. Step inside and the rustic décor -- with bare brick walls, a vintage collection of bric-a-bracs and collectibles from the owner's previous residence in the USA make up a warm, casual and inviting diner perfect for those days when you have a hankering for American-style comfort food.

    Holy cheeseus!

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 16/09/2016

» Do we need an excuse to write about cheese? Not really. Sure, we can justify it with a number of recent events that clearly call for celebration, and what better way to do it than by over indulging on that edible block of gold that always seems to lock our gaze in the outer aisles of Villa Market. The breakup of Hiddleswift? Maybe. Or how about the fact that our Dear Leader wants to standardise Thai food across the globe so that it all tastes the same (yay!). Seriously, who doesn't love a good ol' single-standard-tasting som tum?
