» I don’t want to diminish Vint Chavala’s pleasure at the prime minister’s achievements at the United Nations (PostBag, Oct 4), but nevertheless need to point out that Thailand was actually proposed as next chairman of the G77 during Yingluck Shinawatra’s tenure as premier. But I suppose it was a relief the vote still went Thailand’s way, despite the country’s dubious distinction of being a military dictatorship.

» Just recently all foreign websites have become incredibly slow in Rayong. It is not possible any more to watch a news video on the website of my European newspaper and streaming coverage of the stock exchange is also lagging. Is the internet not workable any more for foreigners? How can a foreign company work here?

» The junta giving officials investigating Yingluck Shinawatra’s rice-pledging plan immunity from future lawsuits is a massive goal. The military is putting Yingluck on trial to hold her accountable for her acts — but for the junta to then excuse itself and its underlings from accountability for their own acts is hypocrisy of the worst kind.
