» Francis Ford Coppola's epic film The Godfather has been celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, a frightening thought as I can recall queuing up to see it at a Bangkok cinema all those years ago. It was 1972, in the days long before multiplex cinemas emerged in Bangkok, so when a big film came out there would be massive queues at the theatre showing the blockbuster.

» The most entertaining story of the week has been the round-up of monitor lizards in Lumpini Park, featuring diligent officials and a posse of perspiring newsmen stumbling about chasing after some 400 or so reptiles estimated to be residing in the park.

Pistol and Boo not the first shaggy dog tale

» So Capt Jack Sparrow (alias Johnny Depp) and his dogs didn't have to walk the plank after all, following their indiscretions in Australia while filming the latest version of the never-ending Pirates of the Caribbean. It was bit of an anti-climax really -- like some of Depp's recent films.
