Migrant workers need better welfare

News, Published on 22/12/2020

» The number 2,482,256 is not a combination that will win Thailand's lottery top prize, but it is nonetheless a lucky number as it represents the total registered migrant workers with the Ministry of Labour during the pandemic. As such, they should have received the protections prescribed under Thai labour laws. But not everyone has been treated the same way or received the incentives to which they are entitled. Do not feed the monkeys

Life, Pichaya Svasti, Published on 19/09/2016

» Since my childhood, I have loved all kinds of animals except snakes, rats and cockroaches. I have had several dogs and a cat as pets. I was bitten once by a temple cat, once by my own cat and several times by my dogs because I accidentally frightened them. However, the weirdest experience was being bitten by a monkey on Khao Wang, or Phra Nakhon Khiri, a mountain palace museum in Phetchaburi, over a year ago. When I was a teenager, I was once surrounded by monkeys who tried to steal my handbag at Phra Kan Shrine in Lop Buri.

Transport Co is taking the wrong route

News, Saritdet Marukatat, Published on 16/01/2012

» The Transport Co chief apparently has many problems to sort out. The state enterprise firm is trying to crack down on illegal vans running inter-provincial services. According to its own estimation, about 6,000 vehicles provide such services despite having no licence or approval from Transport Co, the agency responsible for inter-city routes. Thus far, it has successfully forced many of them to operate under its control, but more are still on the roads. Transport Co and the Land Transport Department stand to lose money from those illegal passenger vans as they do not have to pay route concessions and fees to the agency. It is unacceptable to allow these illegal vans to compete for passengers with the ones legally approved by the agency.
