#BangkokDriversSyndrome

Guru, Napamon Roongwitoo, Published on 10/07/2015

» I was about a few years short of being able to apply for my driver's license when they announced they would no longer be offering lifelong permits. That means, for the rest of my life, I'm required to visit the Department of Land Transport every five years to renew this little white card that I've never really used — for which I am proud, as it means I've never been flagged down by traffic police!

#ILovePRPeople

Guru, Napamon Roongwitoo, Published on 03/07/2015

» As a part of my glamorous, coveted job, I am in contact with about 100 PR representatives per day. OK, maybe five, but still. While most of them are pleasant and send me food on a regular basis, I've had my share of traumatising experiences that I can't seem shake out of my pretty head. I'm not just talking about PR people exclusively — the young(er) generation of office workers can also drive office aunties like me up the wall.

» Eating is so basic and instinctive, yet modern-day crazies have made it oh-so-complicated. It's associated with health, wealth, manners, character, knowledge, karma — the list goes on.

Bringing back the memories

Life, Napamon Roongwitoo, Published on 26/05/2015

» Nothing reminds me that I'm getting old (so are you, by the way) like seeing how much my former idols have aged, and the chances of realising this cruel fact has been quite high recently here in Bangkok, first with the Backstreet Boys' concert earlier this month, followed by Boyzone's performance on Sunday, soon to be followed by Blue next month. Should I also point out that some of these guys were popular when cassette tapes were still the mainstream medium?

Danish delight

Muse, Napamon Roongwitoo, Published on 09/05/2015

» It seems like we can’t escape coming face to face with the hipster trend, and today’s streetwear fashion goes hand in hand with it. Streetwear, however, can be slippery to define, and what looks street chic on one person might look sloppy on another.

It's a family affair

Life, Napamon Roongwitoo, Published on 05/05/2015

» If there’s anyone who deserves extra pampering, it’s a new mother. She has to feed, rock, soothe, clean, bathe and entertain her baby round the clock, which can leave her feeling fatigued and depressed.

A dream to dye for

Muse, Napamon Roongwitoo, Published on 02/05/2015

» Sisters Wowdow and Raweeras Poocharoen and their friend Pornthip Patiluntakalkool look like they each belong to a different social scene. Wowdow, a 33-year-old softly-spoken interior designer, has a confident, mature personality, while her 26-year-old sister Raweeras is a young and hip artist type. Pornthip, 30, who has known the two for years, is a girly girl with an up-and-at-em character. Cool and composed, Wowdow was born and bred in America, while her artsy sister grew up in Chiang Mai. Pornthip, described by her two friends as a "go getter", was raised in Chantaburi province. Despite their diverse backgrounds, what the trio share is their passion for tie-dyed fabric, and the love for the brand they've built together.

Baby steps for your skin

Muse, Napamon Roongwitoo, Published on 02/05/2015

» With all the odd-sounding ingredients dominating the beauty industry today, it is easy to forget how a woman's needs are actually quite simple. Unless your skin is very damaged or ageing beyond hope, what it really needs is just cleansing, moisturising and protection, and those three factors do not require harsh chemicals.

Constructing children's futures

Life, Napamon Roongwitoo, Published on 30/04/2015

» With mushrooming condominiums, office buildings, residence projects and shopping malls, construction workers are an important part of Bangkok's economy. While government policies are in place to ensure construction workers are paid and that they — and their families — have access to basic healthcare and education, reality is often different.
