If it's 'early doors' there's plenty of time

» A Thai reader asked recently the meaning of the expression "early doors" which he had heard used frequently in English football commentaries. It has become quite a familiar observation in sport to indicate a game is still at an early stage. It also creeps into everyday language although perhaps in the more common form of "early days".

Until the new cabinet is officially named, Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai will stay on in his position. With both of them at the helm, the Thai Asean chairmanship will proceed as planned. Nearly six months have elapsed since Thailand became chair, but what it has been able to accomplish over 130 meetings of various committees has gone totally unreported, as the local media was zeroed in on the post-election drama and political brinksmanship manifested by Thailand's 27 parties. Thai bureaucrats are free to prepare for the Asean summit and related meetings.

Nine years ago Mr Mong made the headlines as a 12-year-old when he won the Thailand paper plane championships. Now there is more good news: Three of the boys -- Adul Sam-on, Mongkol Boonpiam and Pornchai Kamluang -- and their coach Ekkapol Chantawong have officially become Thai citizens. On Wednesday they were among 30 stateless people who took the oath of citizenship at a ceremony in Chiang Rai.
