Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 14/09/2017

» It's September again. This year's announcement event -- as always -- was live-streamed for Apple fans all over the world. In Thailand, the announcement presentation began late at night on Sept 12, with the highlights being the much-anticipated iPhone 8 and iPhone X (pronounced "ten").

Line 'em up

» We've all used them at some point or another. Whether it be to accentuate a sentence or to act as a quick reply, the stickers of Line -- the ubiquitous Japanese social-messaging app -- have become a natural part of everyday interactions.

Learning from history

» I recently watched Netflix's Death Note adaptation, officially released last Friday on the streaming site. Based on a famous Japanese manga series, the film revolves around a young man's twisted crusade for justice after having received a special notebook -- the titular death note -- that has the power to kill anyone whose name has been written in it, provided the writer knows their face. Fed up with the many injustices in the world, the young man -- named Light -- uses the note to kill bullies, criminals and even corrupt officials from around the world under the alter-ego Kira, earning a cult-like following from those who agree with his extreme brand of justice.

Not a bad Omen

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 23/08/2017

» In a world where even laptop computers are coming out of the box with 4K capabilities, I found it a little discouraging that the HP Omen Desktop 880 couldn't support ultra-HD resolutions (we received the 021d model for review). Don't get me wrong: it's certainly as powerful as you'd expect from a dedicated gaming PC, capable of running even graphically-intense games like Total War or GTA V at maximum settings without so much as a stutter. It also comes in a sleek, sci-fi-esque chassis that is actually more practical than it looks, one that houses an impressive AMD Ryzen7 1800x processor and 16GB of RAM.

To commemorate this milestone, online streaming titan Netflix recently hosted their Anime Slate 2017 in Tokyo, detailing their plans to produce and release over 20 original and platform-exclusive anime series and films by the end of next year. Some of the notable titles include remakes of classics like Godzilla and Devilman Crybaby, as well as a live action adaptation of the popular manga series Death Note.

No dizzying heights

» The Dark Tower had every reason to be good. It's an adaptation of a renowned series of novels by Stephen King. It features Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey in leading roles. It's also directed (and scripted) by the man who wrote the 2009 Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, as well as 2012's A Royal Affair, both stellar films.

Please, touch the art

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 09/08/2017

» It's not easy learning art when you can't see. For many blind or visually-impaired students in a regular school curriculum, art class can become a tedious and limited affair. While they may be able to memorise names and dates for a quiz, blind students can struggle to keep up with their visually normal peers in more practical tasks or assignments, creating a gap between the capabilities of visually-impaired and regular students.

Assuming a role on the international stage

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 02/08/2017

» When World War I erupted in July 1914, Siam under the reign of King Rama VI declared itself neutral. Having maintained strong diplomatic ties with various countries from both sides of the conflict, there was little reason for the small country in Asia to enter the war on either side, far removed from the conflict in Europe, and with nothing to gain from taking part.
