» According to the Australia's Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), scammers are now targeting scam victims with fake offers to help them recover from scams. The con is to use information from those scammed in the past and approach these people with an offer to recover the funds they have lost for, of course, an up-front fee.

» A reminder for those operating in the digital world. This includes the internet, your phone, social media and basically anything in the public sphere. You can all but guarantee that everything you post online is eventually available to everyone. It doesn't matter what promises your provider might offer -- and maybe they're even being as honest as they can be -- eventually your data will turn up on a public server somewhere. The golden rule is simple: if you don't want everyone to see something, then don't post it anywhere on public networks.
Samsung looks to rebound

» The Samsung Galaxy S8 will be in stores towards the end of April. Samsung had to get this one right after the Note 7 but they have ended up mostly doing an Apple. One obvious conclusion for the release of a 5.8 and 6.2-inch models so close together in screen size is because of the iPhone regular and S versions; it looks like Samsung thought they needed two models as well. There has been no upgrade in battery size nor camera capabilities between the S7 and S8. Then there are the prices, the most expensive Samsungs ever. Add all of this up and it detracts from what is still a rather nice phone.
#hashtag is now official

» It is as official as it is going to get — Oxford have accepted the word “hashtag” into their dictionary. Normally it would take longer, but due to the widespread use of the word it has been added early. The first use was on Aug 25, 2007, in a Twitter posting. The symbol itself has a longer history when back before the 1960s the # symbol, technically known as the “octothorp”, was used as an indicator for a number. It is also called the hash, hatch, crunch, pound, number and tic-tac-toe sign. Yes, I made up that last one.

» A bit over a week ago a free anti-virus app from DroidSecurity passed the 2.5 million download mark from Android users. This puts the utility in the top 50 most popular Android downloads. The reason this is news is because there have been no security threats in the form of malware aimed at the Android platform. Well, there was one SMS Trojan, but that affected only a few people in Russia. The application contains about 200 signatures that are mostly for spyware and phishing threats. The app also includes some spam filtering for anti-text messaging instances.
