Great snakes! Or maybe, not so great

News, Roger Crutchley, Published on 24/07/2016

» Anyone who has lived in Thailand for a while will have experienced some kind of unscheduled meeting with a snake. I've had a few close encounters over the years and have not exactly covered myself in glory. Just like crocodiles, I think snakes are best left to their own devices -- preferably as far away from me as possible. So what was I doing last week sitting face to face with a King Cobra?

Stairway to a kind of heaven in Bangkok

News, Roger Crutchley, Published on 10/07/2016

» The recent case in which Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page and Robert Plant were cleared of stealing the opening riff of their massive hit Stairway to Heaven reminded me of the first time I heard a Thai band play the song in Bangkok.

Hot and more than just a little bothered

The day I realised Thailand was different

News, Roger Crutchley, Published on 17/04/2016

Lady Plods in charge at the cop shop

News, Roger Crutchley, Published on 10/04/2016

» Good news for the Lady Plods. Last Sunday, the Post reported that for the first time in Thailand, a trio of policewomen could soon become police station chiefs. This is not before time. The three ladies in question are police colonels, academically qualified and have worked many years as inquiry officers. They can definitely look after themselves.

There have probably been better years

Oped, Roger Crutchley, Published on 27/12/2015

» Well, we've just about scraped through 2015, although there have been a few dicey moments. Most of us will be happy to see the back of the Year of the Sheep, or was it the Goat? I never did quite work that out. It is customary at this time to look back on the past 12 months, although there are some events you might prefer to forget. If nothing else it serves as a reminder that Thailand will always be Truly Amazing.

Another year to remember, or maybe forget

News, Roger Crutchley, Published on 28/12/2014

» Well, we've just about scraped through another 12 months, although at times things did look a bit on the shaky side. At least all the whistle-blowing has abated. Here are a few reminders of events and characters that graced the year 2014, although some you may prefer to forget.
