Happy to serve evil

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 10/07/2015

» Since 2010, these Tictac-shaped, overall-outfitted creatures have burst onto the animation landscape to globally become one of the most loved and recognisable characters in 3D. The Minions came as a side serving to the main plot in Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2 but in this prequel spin off, it's a lot of heady fun to see what they've been up to before becoming the haplessly devoted henchmen to Gru.

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 31/10/2014

Winter is coming

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 04/04/2014

» ‘Summer is coming” doesn’t quite have the same ring as “winter is coming”. In fact, it sounds like a sarcastic comment in Thailand, which deals with a climate hotter than seven hells all year long, not to mention our simmering politics, with countless climaxes that result in no change whatsoever. For the unaware, “winter is coming” is one of the trademark phrases from the Game Of Thrones TV series, coined to imply that something dark, frightening and lethal is in the future.

A Double Serving Of Fashion

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 06/12/2013

» Imagine if an article of clothing from your favourite designer brand suddenly shape-shifted into a plate of food. The morphing part may still be limited to our sci-fi daydreams, but the food part is very much real. A handful of Thai luxury and fashion brands _ Boyy, Issue, Karmakamet and Kloset _ have recently opened restaurants and cafes within the past five months.

With posterity in mind

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 30/08/2013

» The date 21-12-2012 had a pressing, as well as a very personal significance for Matina Sukhahuta, designer of the whimsical and dreamy jewellery line Matina Amanita. It was the day the Earth was predicted to end, the much-discussed doomsday that never materialised, but that tangle of digits was also compelling because it represented her _ perhaps very last _ birthday. From that apocalyptic date, a collection was born, the recently launched Time Capsule, with the rather grand goal of helping future generations of mortals look back and understand their collective past.

Fibre of their beings

» Italian luxury fashion house Ermenegildo Zegna is a marvellous example of successful integration between two countries. As a long-time supporter of Australia's wool industry, the economic relationship between both countries is as strong as ever _ with last year's two-way trade amounting to US$6.2 billion (180 billion baht).

Open Sesame Street: why public TV matters

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 17/10/2012

» As I was listening to the presidential debate back on Oct3, I knew Mitt Romney was going to have it bad when he pledged to cut federal funding for public broadcasting. Oh yes, fans of the cuddly creatures from Sesame Street and other shows on PBS, such as documentaries, are sure to start their hate parade. In fact, there is actually going to be one on Nov 3, called the Million Muppet March, when protesters will gather at the National Mall in Washington, DC, to defend PBS and Sesame Street.
