Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 09/09/2014

» Eighteen billion stickers are sent through Line every day. The emotions they carry with them however, are boundlessly immeasurable. This green-iconed chatting application has changed the way we communicate, merely through its infectious selection of cheeky rabbits and poker-faced bears.

Inside warring Westeros

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 14/07/2014

» Blood and boobs can be enough to disorient any viewer, but even without all that, Game Of Thrones may be for some, about the most confusing series ever without its illustrative opening sequence. Thanks to the countless cities and honourable (ahem) houses that rule over them, keeping track of the characters and locations almost require note-taking and a session on Wikipedia post-watching.

Flights of Fantasy

» Will Simpson, Game Of Thrones’ storyboard artist, was at Bangkok Comic Con last Sunday to share how his artwork influenced the direction of the series at the talk “Inside The World Of Westeros”. » Although Doraemon and his pals never did make it to the inaugural Bangkok Comic Con to dazzle fans with their live show and there wasn’t even the slightest hint of Star Trek on the programme, there was still more than enough to keep the comic book and TV show groupies satiated for the time being.

» The world never ceases to find new ways to harass our emotional well-being every day. Because I am only human, the pain that comes along with tax papers and sold-out avocados is now also extended to stumbling across TV-series, movie and book spoilers. And those abhorrent things are practically diving towards us from every possible direction, what with the internet and smartphones inextricably entwined with our daily lives.

Winter is coming

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 04/04/2014

» ‘Summer is coming” doesn’t quite have the same ring as “winter is coming”. In fact, it sounds like a sarcastic comment in Thailand, which deals with a climate hotter than seven hells all year long, not to mention our simmering politics, with countless climaxes that result in no change whatsoever. For the unaware, “winter is coming” is one of the trademark phrases from the Game Of Thrones TV series, coined to imply that something dark, frightening and lethal is in the future.

» ‘This will all be bulldozed,” said Maj Gen Surakai Chattumart, director of the Army Welfare Department and Lumpini stadium master. “It will become complete emptiness — I guess it does feel a bit like seeing your home destroyed. It’s like losing something, but if it’s for the better, it’s something we should all accept.”
