Don't follow the virus

Oped, Postbag, Published on 19/03/2020

» Re: "Lockdown the best option", (Editorial, March 18). Our using "social distancing" to fight Covid-19 is what has proven successful elsewhere. But we're too timid. Dr Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, favours a 14-day national shutdown to slow down the spread of the coronavirus in the US, saying: "I think we should really be overly aggressive and get criticised for overreacting," (The New York Times, March 17).

» It looks like the government is asking everyone to take steps to stop the spread of Covid-19. Everyone except the Immigration department, that is. Mass gatherings are to be avoided, yet Immigration herds hundreds of people into its offices every single day.

FFP was singled out

Oped, Postbag, Published on 14/03/2020

Better safe than sorry

News, Postbag, Published on 30/01/2020

» Thailand's very fortunate that we've had only a few cases of coronavirus to date but for-hire drivers, such as those of taxis, Grab, tour drivers and guides should wear surgical masks whenever they're in contact with others. This is to protect them from possibly becoming infected from their passengers or tour members and to lessen the chances of them infecting others.

Pareena catches break

News, Postbag, Published on 26/01/2020

» Local media reported last week that coalition MP Pareena Kraikupt will get off scot-free from charges of encroaching on protected land because she's returned the land to the Agricultural Land Reform Office (Alro) and Royal Forest Department, both of which are suddenly too busy to pursue charges against this influential lady.
