LIFE

Love is waiting in the cloud

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 14/02/2018

» Once perceived as the domain of shady foreigners looking for local women, internet dating hasn't been the sweetest Valentine's rose for many. But since a decade ago, when matchmaking sites first came to Thailand, and as social media continue as a standard mode communication, the relationship between the internet and dating has changed.

TECH

High energy in a small space

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 31/01/2018

» As technology continues to render computer components smaller and smaller, the need to compromise between portability and power is rendered increasingly moot. The 2017 model of the HP Spectre x360 is a paragon of this idea, seamlessly incorporating 4K-capable processing power with a body barely over a kilo in weight. While the review unit I received had some issues maintaining battery life after a while -- no doubt due to the 4K screen -- the overall experience, including the touchpad, keyboard and even the touchscreen-controlled tablet mode are better than any convertible of this size I've ever experienced. It's certainly the most powerful, too.

Prioritising human rights

» What exactly is a human right? The most obvious way to answer that question may be to point toward the 30 Articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). Signed in 1948 and ratified by 48 out of 58 member countries of the UN at the time, the declaration affirms several rights an individual must be afforded as a human being, such as the right to life, opinions and expression, or the right to not be subjected to arbitrary imprisonment or torture.

Personal growth is child's play

Muse, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 25/11/2017

» Whether it be during high-school or college, some of the more fortunate among us probably had one of those friends whose notes were always coveted by everyone in class. The same friend who would happily offer pointers on your homework, or even some last-minute tutoring before an imminent exam. For those who knew her, that would be Narudee -- or Poom -- Kristhanin, director of inspiration and managing partner at the Eureka International consultant's network.

To thunderous applause

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 03/11/2017

» Earlier this year, I had the chance to review another Marvel Studios Film, Spiderman: Homecoming. In that review, I described the film as more of a teenage flick with a sprinkling of superhero glamour, a trait that added a much-needed breath of fresh air to the usual Marvel film formula, one that threatens to outstay its welcome as the studio churns out multiple films each year. The same could be said for Thor: Ragnarok, the latest Marvel feature to arrive in cinemas today.

LIFE

Life, death and rebirth

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 21/09/2017

» As any honest Thai person can tell you, Bangkok is a city of dualities. Walk down one street and you'll find the most serene parks, bombastic high-rises and venerable temples. Turn down the wrong soi, however, and you're suddenly in a seedy alleyway filled with drugs, alcohol and questionable "massage parlours".

Line 'em up

» We've all used them at some point or another. Whether it be to accentuate a sentence or to act as a quick reply, the stickers of Line -- the ubiquitous Japanese social-messaging app -- have become a natural part of everyday interactions.

A war worth watching

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 14/07/2017

» Despite being critical and commercial successes upon their release, the Planet Of The Apes reboot franchise -- beginning with 2011's Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes and followed by 2014's Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes -- never really registered on my radar. I did watch the 2011 film when it was first released, though I didn't find it particularly memorable. I completely forgot about the second, and only realised 15 minutes into War For The Planet Of The Apes that it was in fact the third and closing feature in the series.

LIFE

A cinematic wonder

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 02/06/2017

» After the crushing disappointments that were Man Of Steel (2013), Batman V Superman (2016) and Suicide Squad (2016), it'd be completely fair to assume that Wonder Woman -- the latest superhero film to join DC's ailing cinematic universe -- would likewise be an easy pass. You'd be mistaken.
