#WhatsInAName

Guru, Napamon Roongwitoo, Published on 28/08/2015

» I recently saw a magazine cover that featured a man who had an extremely strange and long name. I don't even remember the name, what he did or why he was on the cover. All I remember is that his name was really weird. It was the Thai equivalent of "Dsfjosoifandegfio". In other words, it looked like someone had spilled Scrabbles tiles and decided to use the resulting mess as a name.

#PrayForThailand

» About a week ago, I told my friend I didn't ever want my kid to grow up. She agreed, saying it's probably irresponsible to bring a new life into this kind of world. Our reasons were simple -- the ever-worsening traffic, people's deceitfulness, cruel climate change and just the struggle of life in general. Try getting through Friday evening traffic on payday when it rains on Sukhumvit Road -- you'll see what I mean. Or read this issue's cover story, which pretty much sums it up.

Home is where the art is

» Do you know the feeling of being inside a well-designed gallery and thinking you’d kill to live in a place like it?

#SocialMediaWoes

Guru, Napamon Roongwitoo, Published on 14/08/2015

» What would life be without social media? Admit it -- the first thing you do in the morning is reach for your phone to see if you have new Line messages or Facebook notifications. If you're older than age 60, part of your morning ritual also includes sending flower images to everyone on your contacts list. (Can someone tell me the purpose of this?)

#VivaMotherhood

» Next week, Thailand will celebrate Mother's Day, which has somehow become the day when we are compelled to buy a jasmine brooch, a gift and a meal for our mothers, then upload said treats to Facebook to prove we did it.

#WeddingGuestilla

» Although there is no set-in-stone rule as to when you should get married, chances are you'll be receiving two wedding invitations per year in your mid-20s, and about five per month as you approach 30. Seriously, hitting 30 is like clearance sale season, with all your girlfriends flying off the shelf in a flurry.

Cracking the code to success

Guru, Napamon Roongwitoo, Published on 24/07/2015

» With so many fashion influencers in Thailand, it is easy to take success stories for granted. We view these people as stylishly dressed individuals who lead charmed lives, but sometimes forget the obstacles and struggles they have faced on the road to success.

#DesignProblems

Guru, Napamon Roongwitoo, Published on 24/07/2015

» The design industry seems like the fastest-growing, most profitable industry in the world. Or maybe the second, following the counterfeit industry selling the same products at shamelessly cheaper prices.

Let sleeping dogs lie (stylishly)

» Pets are important members of many households, and with many "dink" (dual income, no kids) couples opting for furry friends over babies, the pet product industry has never been so vibrant.

» I've recently taught my mother how to use Line, because she'd been to a reunion and suddenly realised how much she had missed out on.
