Frugally floral

Guru, Napamon Roongwitoo, Published on 17/06/2016

» Flowers are one of the most beautiful things in the world and the most prevalent. Gentrification and urbanisation, sadly, do not leave much space for flowers to thrive naturally, which explains why flowers, especially incredibly gorgeous ones, are insanely expensive and more so when it comes to special days like Valentine's Day and Christmas.

» Today is April Fools' Day, another useless celebration human beings have come up with, perhaps out of sheer boredom.

» Earlier this month, our intern interviewed artist Nakrob Moonmanas. One of his quotes particularly resonated with me. "Look at us, we celebrate everything -- Songkran, Valentine's Day, New Year's, Christmas and Chinese New Year."

» Five years ago, when Chirayu Na Ranong opened the first branch of Chu at Asok (2/F, Exchange Tower, BTS Asok), he meant for it to be a place for desserts and chocolate. If you look at its menu now, you might not be able to guess that.

» I was recently at a hospital visiting a friend. This particular hospital is famous for cosmetic surgery, so much so that I admit I was at first a little surprised my friend said she gave birth to her baby there.

» I was in an elevator with two university girls. One, I assume, was a Chinese-Thai, and the other was probably not. That's not the point. The point was, naturally, I eavesdropped.

#FuneralTalk

Guru, Napamon Roongwitoo, Published on 29/01/2016

» My grandfather passed away when I was eight, and while I can’t remember much about his funeral, I remember thinking all of my aunties looked a bit odd without their usual make-up and hairdos. They told me they weren’t allowed to dress up while mourning.
