A mirrored oasis

» Located in the middle of downtown Bangkok next to Phloen Chit BTS, a 10m-high art installation titled Liminal Space is a tree adorned with traditional Thai mirrors. Created by Sanitas Pradittasnee, an artist and landscape designer, the spectacular work offers a space for contemplation in the city.

» One of the biggest K-pop stories in December has been the enlistment of the remaining four members of BTS for mandatory military service. On Dec 11, RM, the leader of BTS, and V, the vocalist, began their enlistment. The following day, two other vocalists, Jimin and Jungkook, entered training camps in Yeoncheon together. As the world's biggest boy band goes on hiatus, it will be interesting to see which rival claims the top spot in the absence of BTS.

» When Suga, the rapper and producer of BTS, announced his solo world tour concert, people were surprised because he is not the main vocalist who is the focus of performances. Suga tours under his alias, Agust D, which he has used since he released his solo album in 2016. "The Suga: Agust D Tour 'D-Day'" started in the US 11 days before he began his tour in Asia. Numerous vlogs and videos have revealed his dynamic and impressive performance, but recordings cannot compare to his live show.

Since their two-hour free concert "BTS <Yet To Come> In Busan" at Busan Asiad Main Stadium, South Korea, on Oct 15 last year was one of their most mesmerising performances, SF Cinema will screen the concert in 4K with the best quality sound system in 57 cinemas nationwide from Feb 1-4.

» Looking back on the year in music, the global phenomenon BTS helped propel the fan base expansion of K-pop groups into the United States. BTS, the seven-member boy band, continues to break recording history and open new frontiers for Asian artists. In March, IFPI, the organisation that represents the recorded music industry worldwide, named BTS as its Global Recording Artist of the Year 2020. The septet won over Taylor Swift, Drake, The Weeknd and Billie Eilish, who ranked second to fifth place respectively. The boy band was the first Asian artist to win the IFPT Global Recording Artist of the Year Award.
