Where is World Expo 2020 host Dubai leading us?

Oped, Published on 18/03/2022

» 'Connecting minds, creating the future", the slogan of World Expo 2020, is everywhere in Dubai. The ongoing event, which opened a year late in October 2021, is the first of its kind since the beginning of the pandemic. Few other places in the world are as future-oriented as Dubai. But what kind of future does Dubai want? The city has established itself as a model for the emerging urban centres of Asia and the Middle East, so its choices today could have far-reaching consequences in the future.

Give Thai Children A Real Gift

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 07/01/2022

» Thailand's English proficiency is on the decline for the third consecutive year, according to a global survey conducted by Education First. The survey, which was announced in November last year, ranked 112 countries that don't use English as their official language in order of their English Proficiency Index. Conjugal confusion

» Re: "Thamanat's fortunes dip", (BP, Dec 29). I see from our "flour" ex-minister Thamanat's asset declaration that he has not one but two wives, evidently living in harmony, as evidenced by their two children. Many men would be most grateful if he'd reveal how he's managed that feat, as my wife insists that Thai laws allow us only one spouse each, with strict punishment for violation.

We're in a rapidly ageing region, but are we ready?

Oped, Published on 01/10/2021

» Imagine it is the year 2050. In the Asia-Pacific, one in four people will be over the age of 60; three times the number of older persons in 2010. With close to 1.3 billion senior citizens in less than 30 years from now, are countries in the region prepared to fully address the needs of older persons so they can age with dignity?

Decarbonisation, the SE Asian way

Oped, Johanna Son, Published on 29/09/2021

» Carbon neutrality is a shared planetary destination, but Southeast Asian countries are laying out their own road maps -- including what some may call detours of sorts -- to getting there in the next three to four decades.

A beacon of hope in Middle East

Oped, Published on 27/09/2021

» The past year has seen many changes around the world, not all for the better. However, in the Middle East, there has been one remarkable development, which has the potential to transform the region in ways that we can only begin to imagine -- the Abraham Accords.

Let’s Talk About Porn

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 24/09/2021

» Thai OnlyFans creators are probably sweating right now due to the police clamp down on them for making explicit content, which is illegal in Thailand. Nong Khai Nao (Miss Bad Egg), the most well-known of Thai creators, was arrested on Monday night along with her boyfriend. Nong Khai Nao allegedly raked in, at her peak, nearly B1 million in three months, but has now quit OnlyFans to focus on her YouTube content instead. They face three years imprisonment or a B60,000 fine, or both.
