All I want for Christmas are these

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 08/12/2017

» 'Tis the season to be giving, and for those of us who actually put some thought and effort into the gifts we give, it can be a little daunting. Will the person like it? Will they even use it? Is it affordable and within our budget? Will Santa bump us to the top of the "nice" column on his list? The last one is a joke because we all just want to give for the sake of giving... right? Anyway, here are four items that might just send someone jumping for joy when you give it to them as a present. We are not responsible for the awkward hugs and kisses you're bound to receive.

» This week we sat down with international best-selling author Pashmina P. After almost breaking Amazon with the huge hit of her first book The Cappuccino Chronicles — a page-turning tale that pans out over coffees, good conversations and real-life experiences had by some spiritual and not-so-spiritual women across different parts of the globe — the recent release of her second Mocha Madness has already welcomed the same levels of success. And who would have thought all this started from her being put on bed rest! Find out what Pashmina has to say about her journey, writing and the release of her third book next year!

'Tis the season to give back

Guru, Catherine Faulder, Published on 08/12/2017

» Alas, December is here and we at Guru now deem it appropriate to ring in the Christmas cheer. We trust that you, dear readers, ignored anything Christmas-related blasted to you before the beginning of this month. From today, we now declare it to officially be the season to be jolly; the season to get presents; the season to buy presents and most importantly, the season to give! And give back, maybe? This week we focus on gifts for Christmas and the new year that give back. These gifting ideas may clear your conscience and make you feel less guilty about all the naughty, naughty things you did in 2017. And if you were a saint for the entire year, well... perhaps you'll be sleeping even better every night knowing you bought one of these.

    Setting sail

Guru, Nimarta Narang, Published on 10/11/2017

» Bangkok has its charms, and there have been plenty of people enticed by this city. Yuval Schwok is one of them. Having grown up in Paris with a liberal Jewish background, Yuval always had a strong desire to travel and seek adventure. He accidentally arrived in Bangkok 14 years ago, and never quite left as he has now lived here for 12 years. It is quite fitting then that his first project was called The Overstay — a hostel, music venue and creative space all in one offering more than a place to stay for travellers and visitors. But for the past three years, Yuval has also been developing a new project called Bangkok Island, a boat that is set to be a prime venue for music and art. He hopes for it to not be like any other boat cruise, but rather a destination for artists and live music. We had a chat with The Overstay's founder about his new project, the challenges he has encountered and his take on the event scene in Bangkok.
