America bashing at Esplanade Mall

By gohmer, Created on: 09/05/2010, Last updated on: 11/06/2011

» I putting this post up because it is related to international relationships with American citizens living and visiting Thailand. It illustrated to me that little is known about America by most people in Thailand, in fact, I think that few in the world truly understand what America is about and how...

    • zydeco commented :
It is quite likely that this current anti-American sentiment was encouraged by the Thai Government's calling a high official of the United States State Department on the carpet for sponsoring a breakfast last Saturday to which not only several Thai Government representatives were invited but also a leader of the Red Shirt demonstrators as well as a lawyer for former prime minister Thaksin. [/quote:2cd1wcnx] Of course. How dare anyone question the motives, intelligence, and manners of a high ranking envoy from the Dalaibama. Otherwise, rude T-shirts will spin out of thin air to appear in shopping malls in a matter of hours. Shopowners and average people will suddenly turn nasty, being nothing more than the unthinking puppets of a massive government conspiracy to create ill will towards money-laden American tourists and expats desperately searching for the next KFC.

    Western fast food

By Pranot, Created on: 02/07/2009, Last updated on: 29/07/2009

» Today Western fast food is popular because there are many branches of this food everywhere and it is comfortable to buy and eat them. In my opinion, we should not buy Western fast food for three reasons: First, Western fast food is expensive. It has less quantity because a raw material in production...

In Thailand, there are a great many people employed in jobs where they are not encouraged to think or where they don't need to think or know too much. Unfortunately, this often means that staff are poorly equipped to carry out the basic functions of their jobs. I once visited a booth selling fresh coffee. Only coffee. No soft drinks, no tea, no cakes; only fresh coffee. I ordered a latte. Two minutes later, I was given a cup of black coffee. When I reminded them that I ordered a latte, I was told I had been served a latte!! I then had the pleasure of teaching them what they should have already known to do their job. And I never went back.[/quote:2gxuiy4v] Yes I have observed this too, took two goes to get a cappuccino the other day. Wouldn't mind but it was 90 baht. That's a lot of money to pay for something you didn't want and didn't order. Secondly, why can't I get hot french fries at Mc Donalds or KFC? Even when I return them and say lorn krup lorn mak mak they still take the fries from the stand where thay have been standing for 10 minutes or more. Where I come from they would have been binned after that time. Please explain me no understand?

    • Jason McDonald commented :
When I come to Thailand the last thing I am looking for is a burger, pizza or chicken s**** I have found some superb eateries (sorry I have a problem spelling restaurant) in the Phimai area and enjoy them to the full, I am also extremely lucky that my mates wife and my girlfriend are both excellent cooks in both Thai and european cuisine, McD, K** and Pi*****t can get lost. [/quote:3mvsgh40] Hi Silverfox. I don't know how asian peoople can eat rice or noodles every day. I can't I love asian foods especially Thai and Vietnamese but I can not eat it everyday. For the last week I've been eating french fries and fried egg on toast with HP sauce for lunch. So has my wife because we got bored with Thai food and needed a change. I also eat Mc and KFC sometimes for the same reason ecept I can't get hot frenchfries in Thailand except when I do them myself or my wife does them.
