» Nothing gets you through the day like a cup of coffee, whether to kickstart your morning or keep you awake all day long. Many might see coffee as just another caffeinated drink, regardless of how it is brewed, with little or no thought to its origins.

Guru, Suthivas Tanphaibul, Published on 24/06/2022

» To all Thais, now you can proudly brag that we're the first Asian country to legalise marijuana. The new milestone was marked on June 9, 2022, when growing and trading cannabis were no longer a crime in Thailand. Smoking gets a green light too, but puffing a joint in public is still prohibited. Guru, Published on 04/02/2022

» The fifth edition of Bangkok Design Week returns this weekend, serving as a platform for designers, creators, entrepreneurs, producers, artists, public agencies and individuals to explore coexistence with Covid-19; to find a new way of life for the future. Under the "Co With Creation" theme, the design week has a threefold mission. First, to encourage creators' creativity and experimentation to create a new normal lifestyle. Second, to support creative businesses and communities to generate income. And, third, to revitalise creative districts of Charoen Krung-Talad Noi, Sam Yan, Ari-Pradipat, Thonglor-Ekamai and Phra Nakhon through online and offline activities. These are just five out of 30 highlights, many of which take place at the Grand Postal Building and TCDC. Go to bangkokdesignweek.com.

    Democratic justice

» I wish to thank the 12 diplomats and their respective democratic countries for finally supporting the Thai people. Foreign Affairs Minister Don Pramudwinai's comment, "It's an intervention in our justice system" is a joke. Without a truly democratically elected government there is no justice.

Guru has scoped out some of Bangkok's most admirable, century-old homes to discover the stories behind them.

    How the 'mighty' fall

    News, Postbag, Published on 13/05/2019

» Re: "Bandits with 'high status'", (Editorial, May 11). The story about someone of "high status" bullying a low-ranking police officer is not rare in our society. This is because our culture pays respect to phu yai -- our elders. In doing his duty, Lance Corporal Ekapol Juisongkaeo was reprimanded and demoted by his boss for "failing to use judgement" by demanding a man of high status show his driving licence.
