Life, Peerawat Jariyasombat, Published on 30/05/2013

» On a country road, I make my way past vast rice paddies that extend all the way to the horizon. Sunk by saffron scandals

Life, Peerawat Jariyasombat, Published on 03/07/2013

» Recently, the unbecoming behaviour of certain Buddhist monks has become the talk of the town. Probably the most scandalous case is the luxurious lifestyle of a famous phra, who uses brand-name products and travels like a billionaire on a private jet.

    This place is a hoot

Life, Peerawat Jariyasombat, Published on 28/03/2013

» They are famous for haunting trees at night with their distinctive hoots and swooping on mice and other prey, and now they're stopping traffic. A giant bamboo sculpture with bright eyes peers from the entrance of the Owl Art Museum in Nakhon Chaisi, Nakhon Pathom province, never failing to attract the attention of motorists.

No easy road to freedom on public holidays

Life, Peerawat Jariyasombat, Published on 23/04/2013

» Avoiding driving on crowded roads during a long weekend such as Songkran might be a good idea. But travelling on weekdays, though smaller traffic jams, may give you a different experience _ some of them beyond your imagination.

    Neglected neighbour

Life, Peerawat Jariyasombat, Published on 02/05/2013

» So close to Bangkok that it is invariably overlooked by day-trippers, Nakhon Pathom is neither an exotic nor a particularly exciting destination. What this town does have in bucketfuls, though, is a tranquil, laid-back atmosphere, good food at reasonable rates and a few spots that are so beautiful you'll probably want to make a return visit.

» Hundreds of passengers quietly hang around Bangkok's Hua Lamphong station. Some have waited for so long that they decide to sit on the floor because all the benches are occupied. Maids take a break and enjoy chatting in a quiet corner, out of their supervisor's sight.

    Phuket reprised

Life, Peerawat Jariyasombat, Published on 11/04/2013

» Phuket is changing rapidly and some of its better known attractions have got far too popular for their own good. There are, however, still some quiet, relatively unspoiled spots on the island where one can have a relaxing time away from the maddening crow
