Wearing your fitness gains

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 19/08/2015

» Fitness trackers are the new smartphones these days, with various tech companies seemingly scrambling over each other to release the dominant fitness wearable. The UP3, called the "most advanced way to track your fitness, sleep and heart health" by creator Jawbone, certainly has all the specs you'd expect from a fitness wearable, though whether that supports Jawbone's lofty claims for its flagship device is doubtful at best.

Reality, not as we know it

» Experiencing the Samsung Gear VR was, beyond a doubt, the coolest thing to happen to me in 2015 -- at least for a few hours...

Sleek solid sounds

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 25/11/2015

» When it comes to high-end headphones, Sennheiser stands right up there with Marshall or Bose in terms of sound quality. The Urbanite XL Wireless, an upgraded version of the same class of headphones released last year, brings with it the sound quality you'd expect from a Sennheiser product; providing a solid bass, while maintaining a wide range of sounds across various genres of music. Additionally, perhaps to compete with more trendy competitors like Beats By Dre, the Urbanite XL is also given a sleek, subtle design that should appeal to more fashion-conscious music lovers as well.

Highs and lows of a hybrid device

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 16/12/2015

» HP's Pavilion X2 laptop-tablet hybrid leaves much to be desired. It doesn't have the best screen resolution, nor is its performance as quick and snappy as I hoped it would be. The cramped keyboard makes typing mildly frustrating from time to time. That said, the device is also one of the cheapest devices running on Windows 10 right now, and is at least usable for simple tasks like working on documents (I'm actually typing this on the device). If you're looking for a versatile, portable device for working remotely or for consuming media such as music or videos, there are plenty of worse choices to go with than the Pavilion X2.

Perfectly impractical

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 20/01/2016

» When it comes to smartphones, Sony is hardly considered among the "big boys" of the industry like Samsung or Apple. Approaching Sony's latest flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z5 Premium, I was sceptical at first. While the newest model in Sony's Xperia line proves to be a huge step in the right direction -- with an impressive 23MP back camera, 5.5-inch 4K resolution display and even workable water, plus fall-proof technology -- there are still plenty of caveats to the device that holds it back from standing toe-to-toe with the likes of Samsung's Galaxy S line or Apple's iPhones, despite the similar price tag.

Envy-ous? Not really

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 11/05/2016

» For a machine with a 6th Generation Intel dual-core i7 processor and 8GB RAM running on Windows 10, the HP Envy Notebook never quite managed to leave much of an impression on me. Despite its impressive specs, comfortable keyboard and sleek design, I still found using the notebook to be merely satisfactory at best, with enough performance glitches to hold it back from being an immediate recommendation. Those of you looking for a light, serviceable laptop computer for working on the go could find a lot to like in the machine, provided you can stomach the relatively hefty price.

The Internet of Things

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 25/05/2016

» The words "everything is connected" has never been quite as literal or accurate as at the Amazon Web Services Internet of Things Hack Day, a 12-hour tech marathon that saw teams of skilled programmers from corporations and universities compete to create the most innovative tech solutions or gadgets for everyday problems. The project is part of Amazon's efforts in demonstrating the uses of its new AWS cloud-computing product suite, and was held at the AWS offices in Singapore on April 27.

Communication breakdown

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 20/06/2016

» It has been an uncomfortable several months for internet users the Kingdom over, as the government released the drafts of its eight new digital-related bills. The bills immediately became the source of much controversy, as many critics and pundits criticised the new regulations and laws included in the drafts to be a step back into the days before the 1997 media reforms, giving government agencies absolute control over the surveillance, management and oversight of digital data.

Cyber security laws - in flux, but set to flex

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 10/08/2016

» Eight new cyber stability and security bills continue to go through various stages of deliberation. Of particular note to the Thai public are the Cyber Stability and Computer Crimes act, both of which have raised concerns among many activists and watchdog groups who continue to speak out against many specific sections in both bills, which they interpret will potentially allow the government to control civil and privacy rights, and which Life reported on last month.
