» The Election Commission chairman has stated categorically that the Feb 2 election process cannot be ''smooth, fair and transparent'', (''EC hints at poll date intervention'', BP, Dec 27). However, this caretaker government has objected to a postponement on pedantic excuses. It is shameful for them not to listen and miss the chance of peace-making. Firstly, why should one argue with the referee's observation when they are independent and supposed to know best. Secondly, it is better for the government to take the initiative rather than being forced to the postponement by EC.
