Ridicule first, Ask questions later

Life, Patcharawalai Sanyanusin, Published on 21/01/2019

» 'What we see is not always true." The saying is valid and can remind us to not easily jump to conclusions. It's a shame that most netizens don't seem to keep this in mind. That's why they are always quick to criticise everyone who appears on social media -- only to find out later that the person might not be like they thought at all.

Will Thailand follow Canada's lead on pot?

» People are very capable of finding a way to please themselves. But whether their means are decent or not is another story. Today, it is rather complicated to justify one’s choice even though it might sound unacceptable.

Free your mind and the rest will follow

» Last week I came across an interesting news item about a small temple in Chiang Mai having come up with a cool idea to get visitors to ponder their lives. It has erected many large timetables around the premises, each detailing the number of days people at each age have left to live if they are to die at 75, the average lifespan for Thais.

Pitfalls on the path toward enlightenment

Life, Patcharawalai Sanyanusin, Published on 18/06/2018

» Money is a tantalising thing, coveted by many. But worldly goods can pose a threat to those who are called to a higher order. The seven ex-monks from three famous Bangkok temples who were in the media limelight over the weeks are no exception.

Banking on time

Life, Patcharawalai Sanyanusin, Published on 26/03/2018

» Time is valuable as long as we know how to spend it. Time is money for those who want to accumulate wealth, yet time allows us to live our lives in a much more meaningful way.

Two for the heart

» The Christmas spirit is in full bloom, and you don't need to be Christian to love the holiday. This is a joyous season when people are happy to give gifts to loved ones.

Rohingya need help, not our pathos

Life, Patcharawalai Sanyanusin, Published on 25/09/2017

» It's sad to see this happen in the home of our neighbour. The cruel attacks and random killings that are common in warfare yet scar humanity are the last thing we want to see.

OPINION

When the 'noble' image doesn't quite stack up

Life, Patcharawalai Sanyanusin, Published on 26/06/2017

» How would you feel if someone you have long regarded as a good person turns out to be full of flaws? Many might want to ask this question to the followers of Thitinart Na Pattalung or Kru Oi, a businesswoman-turned-dhamma writer and life coach who has been at the centre of criticism on social media for weeks.

The man with a thousand faces

Life, Patcharawalai Sanyanusin, Published on 27/03/2017

» Reports of Phra Dhammajayo having been stripped of his monastic title of "Phra Thepyan Mahamuni" early this month and the possibility that he might be disrobed have brought joy to many Buddhists. His doomed fall from grace is the result of his repeated failure to answer charges on money laundering, receiving stolen assets and forest encroachment that have been filed against him.

His Majesty's compassionate legacy for Thais

Life, Patcharawalai Sanyanusin, Published on 12/12/2016

» Tomorrow will be the two-month anniversary of the day that our beloved HM King Bhumibol passed away. It was a very difficult time where we struggled to deal with our grief over this great loss. He was the only King most Thais knew since we were born, the only figure who genuinely cared about everyone in the country and the only person whose every presence brought so much joy to all of us. I don't know how long it will take us to successfully come to terms with the fact that we will never see him again.
