» I agree with JB (PostBag, Dec 6) that there is an urgent need for Thai immigration laws to be reviewed and changed to reflect the current situation. The existence and purpose of many of the current rules seem to only be in place to support a large, antiquated, inefficient and costly bureaucracy at the immigration department.

» In their Dec 8 letters, both Barbara AK Franklin and Richard Mabbitt attempt to educate me about the origin of Santa Claus, or Saint Nicholas. Sorry to burst their bubble but it’s impossible to point to a real "first" Santa, because Santa is a culmination of mythological legends and stories.

» Well done to Sanitsuda Ekachai (Opinion, Nov 11) for boldly asking questions about the suspicious detention deaths of two people accused of lese majeste. Defending the good name of our monarchy is of paramount "national" importance here, but every opaque and questionable use of this law has a negative impact on the institution it is trying to defend.
