Oped, Anna Kofoed, Published on 12/12/2025

» In our increasingly turbulent world, travelling for many no longer unfolds as a straightforward endeavour.

Symbolic acts won't create a real Palestine

Oped, Gwynne Dyer, Published on 25/09/2025

» Ten more countries are recognising Palestine as a sovereign state in the course of this week. That brings the total up from 147 to 157. It's a big deal to an extent because for the first time it includes quite a few big, rich Western countries (France, the UK, Canada and Australia). But it is not unified, and it still controls no territory.

Appeasing China won't help counter Trump

Oped, Brahma Chellaney, Published on 02/09/2025

» In 2020, China's stealth encroachments into India's Himalayan borderlands triggered deadly clashes and a prolonged military standoff that nearly erupted into war. Five years on, the border crisis remains largely unresolved, yet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is headed to China in an apparent effort to ease friction -- just when India is facing punishing tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump.

Asean's balancing act gains momentum

Oped, Kavi Chongkittavorn, Published on 12/08/2025

» In the middle of the Covid-19 crisis, a tentative idea was raised at the Chongqing virtual meeting between Asean-China foreign ministers in June 2021, for Asean Plus Two. Oped, Watcharin Ariyaprakai, Published on 23/07/2025

» At a time when Thai society is reeling from scandals in the monastic community -- from leaked audio clips of money transfers via apps to secret relationships with women -- we are not merely shocked that "monks have done wrong", but rather at how swiftly the "image of purity" we've long upheld has collapsed.

Asean's strategy against US tariffs

Oped, Kavi Chongkittavorn, Published on 22/04/2025

» On April 2, President Donald Trump's so-called "Liberation Day" quickly morphed into "Solidarity Day" for all 10 members of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean).

OPINION

Trump should revisit his tariff schemes

Oped, Kavi Chongkittavorn, Published on 08/04/2025

» President Donald Trump's tariff hikes, marking "Liberation Day", hit foes and friends of the US equally. The immediate effect is that Mr Trump has rallied the rest of the world to prepare for a future without US dominance. To put it mildly, they must become less dependent on the US in every possible way -- unless Mr Trump changes his approach.

Unlocking Asean's grid for green growth

Oped, Rapeepat Ingkasit, Published on 19/03/2025

» Thailand is taking a significant step towards renewable energy, targeting half of its electricity generation from renewable sources by 2037 under the recently drafted Power Development Plan 2024 (PDP2024).
