Oped, Vinaya Prakash Singh, Published on 09/10/2025

» World Post Day, observed every year on Oct 9, was proclaimed by the 1969 Universal Postal Congress in Tokyo to mark the anniversary of the founding of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 in Berne. Across 192 UPU member countries, the day is celebrated through the launch of new products, the opening of postal facilities, employee recognition, and community engagement.

Making abortion safer in Thailand

Oped, Kalyapat Rachitroj, Published on 06/10/2023

» Safe abortion is a basic healthcare service and an important enabling factor for Thailand to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Under Target 3.1 of Goal 3 (ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages), a two-thirds reduction in maternal mortality -- in which unsafe abortion is a leading cause -- is called for by 2030. And this is directly under the mandate of the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) to deliver.

Will gentrification respect city's people?

Oped, Kong Rithdee, Published on 28/06/2023

» We've lived for over a century in the shadow of grandeur: near the Customs House, known to Thais as rongpasi. "We" means my maternal family and the community of Haroon Mosque. Each day before sunrise, the muezzin's sing-song call rings through the neighbourhood, carried on the river wind towards the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, the French Embassy and Assumption Cathedral.

Fascists really are coming in the United States

Oped, Gwynne Dyer, Published on 25/06/2021

» Godwin's Law, coined in 1990, says that as a discussion on the internet grows longer, the likelihood of somebody being compared to Hitler or the Nazis rises inexorably towards 100%. But once in a very long while the comparison is correct.

America can learn from India's weeks-long polls

Oped, Sandip Roy, Published on 06/11/2020

» Americans have long been accustomed to knowing the results of elections by the time they go to bed on Election Day. This year is forcing them to realise that's not necessarily the norm. Democracy, unlike candy, does not come out of a vending machine delivering instant gratification. And that's a good thing.

Bureaucratic reform key to Thai future

Oped, Somkiat Tangkitvanich, Published on 14/10/2020

» If our nation state were a computer, the bureaucracy would be an operating system too outdated to keep up with the magnitude of Thailand's modern-day challenges.

It's make or break time for Donald Trump
