Derelict outpost

Oped, Postbag, Published on 03/12/2025

» Re: Toxic threat sweeps all before it", (BP, Dec 1). Your recent report left me more than a little confused about a village I have known for 37 years. The description bore little resemblance to the village I visit maybe four times a week when I visit my local supermarket or withdraw money from the ATM. Those golden years of rafting took place before the highway was constructed over the mountain range.

Learn from past probe

Oped, Postbag, Published on 17/07/2024

» Re: "Marine Police chief transferred over smuggled oil", (BP, July 8). Civil servants are transferred so they won't interfere with an investigation into their alleged wrongdoings.

OPINION

Boat saga hard to take

Oped, Editorial, Published on 19/06/2024

» The public has already heard numerous examples of criminal evidence vanishing from police custody but the recent case of three oil-smuggling boats that disappeared from a police pier in Chon Buri is too preposterous to process.

OPINION

Making exports for a low-carbon era

Oped, Kannika Thampanishvong & Nipon Poapongsakorn, Published on 27/03/2024

» Exports have been Thailand's important growth engine for many decades. A number of Thailand's export destinations have shown increasing interest in and support for low-carbon products. Failure to meet global demand for low-carbon products risks Thailand's competitiveness in international trade.

Politics at the root of world's three famines

Oped, Gwynne Dyer, Published on 26/03/2024

» There are three incipient famines in the world today, and politics is at the root of all of them. That's not unusual, actually: famines are almost always political events.

OPINION

Hope on horizon for starving Palestinians?

Oped, Gwynne Dyer, Published on 14/03/2024

» Good news! The US logistical support ship General Frank S. Besson Junior has just sailed from Norfolk, Virginia, carrying the equipment needed to build a temporary pier off the coast of Gaza. That will enable the US to deliver food to the starving (yes, literally starving) Palestinian population of the Israeli-occupied Gaza Strip.

OPINION

I hoped to vote for a united Taiwan

Oped, Sam Chang, Published on 13/01/2024

» I'm 72 years old, but recently I made a rookie mistake. I believed that Taiwanese politicians, when they signed an agreement, would honour that agreement and seek unity.

OPINION

Restore trust in justice

Oped, Editorial, Published on 08/09/2023

» Politicians and wealthy suspects running away from the arms of the law are not new in Thailand. Too many times, Thais have seen the odious twisting of the legal system where suspected culprits have managed to avoid the courtroom.

OPINION

A poisonous can of worms

Oped, Editorial, Published on 04/05/2023

» The cyanide poisoning drama involving a pregnant suspect in Kanchanaburi is a shock, not only because of the high number of victims but also the legal loopholes that enabled the suspect to obtain and allegedly misuse a highly hazardous substance.

OPINION

Mustn't forget
