Rethinking identity from the start

Oped, Watcharin Ariyaprakai, Published on 29/10/2025

» Thailand has made history by recognising same-sex marriage, affirming the right of adults to love and marry freely. This will rightly be celebrated as a triumph for equality and human dignity. Yet, in the same society, another group remains voiceless: newborns born with Disorders of Sex Development (DSD).

Data paints economy as 'black hole'

News, Chartchai Parasuk, Published on 12/12/2024

» I am known for being pessimistic about the Thai economy. Apart from encouraging official economic growth figures of 1.6% in Q1, 2.2% in Q2, and 3.0% in Q3, I do not think anyone can be optimistic about the economy. It is obvious that GDP data and the actual economic situation do not go hand in hand. It is beyond my comprehension that the non-performing loan (NPL) level rose 14.1% in Q3 while the economy expanded 3.0%. Shouldn't it be the opposite when debtor's income rises?

Oped, Natalie Yeh, Published on 22/10/2024

» Nine years ago, when I spotted blood in my ejaculate, I made an appointment to see my urologist. I quickly found myself to be the only woman in the waiting room. A handful of men surrounded me, and I could see the gears turning in their heads, wondering why a person who presented as and looked like a woman was waiting alongside them.

A shocking disclosure from Harry's 'Spare'

Oped, Gwynne Dyer, Published on 11/01/2023

» Where do you look when somebody says: "In the age of Apaches and laptops, everything I did in the course of two combat tours was recorded, time-stamped. I could always say precisely how many enemy combatants I'd killed. And I felt it vital never to shy away from that number.

The possible upsides to Covid infection

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 08/08/2022

» There's always a first time for everyone. After three years of living life virus free, I got Covid-19 from a friend after attending a concert recently. However, to my surprise, my first experience wasn't all that terrible. I felt mildly ill, with fever and body aches, but no sore throat or a lung infection. Fortunately, I was able to look after myself at home and the symptoms only lasted a week.
