Let's just try leaning into your morbid curiosity

Oped, Coltan Scrivner, Published on 30/10/2025

» Film critics Gene Siskel and Johnny Oleksinski have called fans of slasher films like Friday the 13th and Saw "very sick people" and "depraved lunatics who should not be allowed near animals or most other living things". Public outcry around the video game Mortal Kombat in the early 1990s was so extreme that it led to a special US Senate hearing on the topic. Similarly, the recent rise of true crime entertainment has some people wondering if we are becoming desensitised to the horror and seriousness of the events themselves.

The time I really put my foot in it

Oped, Roger Crutchley, Published on 19/10/2025

» A half-hearted spring-cleaning session at home during the week came to a welcome halt when I unearthed a couple of my father's wartime RAF books under a pile of disintegrating paperbacks. Oped, Gwynne Dyer, Published on 24/09/2024

» A bit behind the curve (it was first posted last April), I have stumbled across "The New York Declaration on Animal Consciousness".

Warped curiosity

Oped, Postbag, Published on 04/09/2024

» Re: "Taste of hell", (BP photo, Sept 1). It is bad enough that kids are encouraged to play with guns and clamber all over tanks on Army Day, but now we have a shopping centre that has established a "Hell Space" for a week to entertain curious, and I mean curious people, including youngsters.

Tilapia crisis needs fixing

Oped, Editorial, Published on 07/08/2024

» This week's cabinet meeting was hotly anticipated by the public and media, who were eager to know who was responsible for the flood of invasive blackchin tilapia recently found in 17 provinces and coastal waters.

OPINION

Something fishy afoot

Oped, Editorial, Published on 25/07/2024

» Almost a month after a massive invasion of blackchin tilapia made national headlines, confusion still reigns, with information about the issue still murky.

OPINION

Really fishy business

Oped, Editorial, Published on 06/07/2024

» The latest report about local fishery officials and fishermen in Songkhla and Nakhon Si Thammarat trying to clear "Pla Mor Si Kang Dam" or blackchin tilapia from natural waterways to save native aquatic creatures is alarming.
