News, Gwynne Dyer, Published on 06/12/2025

» Elon Musk promised to build a spaceship that would put people and cargo into Earth orbit at one-hundredth of the current cost per kilo and even enable human beings to create a colony on Mars. A great many people were seduced by the idea, including me.

Let's just try leaning into your morbid curiosity

Oped, Coltan Scrivner, Published on 30/10/2025

» Film critics Gene Siskel and Johnny Oleksinski have called fans of slasher films like Friday the 13th and Saw "very sick people" and "depraved lunatics who should not be allowed near animals or most other living things". Public outcry around the video game Mortal Kombat in the early 1990s was so extreme that it led to a special US Senate hearing on the topic. Do you know what kids do at school?

Oped, Mariano Miguel Carrera, Published on 09/05/2025

» In the 1970s and 1980s, regular public service announcements (PSAs) went along: "It's 9pm. Do you know where your children are?" These announcements contributed to a major pendulum shift in parenting (positively and negatively). Having PSAs in the 2020s is required to create the required major shift in education to put the focus on parents' role in learning rather than just making sure their kids attend school. "Do you know what your child is doing at school?" should be the new announcement.

Oped, Post Reporters, Published on 21/03/2025

» The pre-arranged three-day trip to Xinjiang to meet repatriated members of the Uyghur community shows that the Thai government is struggling to fix the country's human rights reputation after it sent 40 of them back on Feb 27.
