Crossings chaos

Oped, Postbag, Published on 11/12/2024

» Well done to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) for the excellent resurfacing of many roads in the Suan Luang area by using tarmac to eliminate all the recently installed red pedestrian crossings, white road markings and lane dividers. The ensuing havoc of cars and bikes driving all over the flipping place and pedestrians having no crossing facilities on On Nut 17 (and other sois) as a result of those essential markings being obliterated is marvellous. Congratulations!

Stars align for Yingluck's return

News, Veera Prateepchaikul, Published on 09/12/2024

» The prospect of fugitive former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra returning home to celebrate the Songkran festival in mid-April is not just wishful thinking by her brother Thaksin, given developments concerning a few key players in the infamous rice-pledging scheme and the Corrections Department's move to draft regulations pertaining to detentions outside prison.

Being ginger adds spice to life

News, Roger Crutchley, Published on 04/06/2023

» I have been reprimanded by a reader of ginger persuasion for failing to mention two significant days in the calendar for those of us who have grown up saddled with nicknames like "Ginger Nut", "Ginger Bonce", "Tomato Head", "Carrot Top", not to mention "Freckle Face". I plead guilty to allowing the recent "Cuddle a Ginger Day" and "World Redhead Day" slip by without a single bleat in support of gingers.

Time to foster peace

News, Editorial, Published on 16/11/2022

» There were a few takeaways from the Asean meetings held in Phnom Penh last week. Apart from political diversions and photo-ops between world leaders with Prime Minister Hun Sen, the most welcoming news was that Timor Leste is to be a new Asean member.

Will justice serve 'Billy'?

Oped, Editorial, Published on 20/08/2022

» The decision of the Office of the Attorney-General to press charges of premeditated murder, illegal confinement, coercion and concealing a human's body against former chief of Kaeng Krachan national park, Chaiwat Limlikhit-aksorn and his three subordinates represents the first major step in the right direction to bring justice to the late Karen activist Porlajee "Billy" Rakchongcharoen and his family.
