Cab mafia malarkey

News, Postbag, Published on 14/07/2017

» If I remember correctly, about a year ago the NCPO and the "boys in brown" were going to make the meter taxis use the meter in the cab instead of just plucking a number out of the air.

Renaissance history

Life, Bernard Trink, Published on 14/07/2017

» I am so conditioned when I pick up a new book about Italy that I expect it to be a historical novel about Ancient Rome. That period seems to fascinate historians and historical novelists. This reviewer finds it no more than somewhat interesting.

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 14/07/2017

» When you've pored over the news feed on Facebook as much as I have, you'll have surely noticed some news items that made you think "Why on earth did you report this?" or "Great, that's two minutes of my life I'll never get back." Here are five "news items" that I spotted recently that perhaps, IMHO, shouldn't have been cluttering up our screens.

Land of the free, home of the breakfast!

Guru, Chris Raufeisen, Published on 14/07/2017

» A quick, minute-long walk from Asoke sky train is all it takes to find The New Yorker. We recommend you start with the Everything bagel (B105). Warm, crunchy and toasted with a generous side of cream cheese. To drink we recommend the Cappuccino (B75). Steamed right in front of you, it is a refreshingly smooth and silky start to your morning; they also have freshly squeezed orange juice (B35). Among the most popular breakfast items is the Waffle (B155); and rightly so! Made with homemade batter, it is crisp, fluffy, light and buttery. Served with a side of 100% pure maple syrup, you can lather it on like a rich sugary dressing. Great for sharing.

The venerated house of pancakes

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 14/07/2017

» The Setting: The International House of Pancakes, or IHOP as it's most commonly known, has been a beloved breakfast staple in the good ol' US of A since 1958. While it does have the word "international" in its name, it was only a few weeks ago that the American breakfast chain finally opened its first store here in Bangkok. Located on the ground floor of Siam Paragon, IHOP sits right over the small artificial pond. Seating in the current location is limited, but it's planning to open up a bigger space up on the fourth floor by the end of the year. Because of this, it's best if you get there early. Besides, the menu is a breakfast menu. Actually, since Paragon opens at 10am, let's just say that it's perfect for brunch. You know what, we take it all back. Pancakes are perfect any time of the day, whether it be breakfast, lunch, dinner, or when you wake up at 3am in the morning feeling hungry. IHOP won't be open then, though.
