» Anyone surprised by the barbaric attack on a Dhaka cafe on Friday night has not been paying attention. That seems to include the Bangladesh government, whose ham-fisted and ineffective steps to combat the rise of terrorism is one of the causes of the weekend butchery. Organised al-Qaeda and Islamic State terrorist cells have been active in Bangladesh for many years. Two years of a woeful response by Dhaka to wanton, brutal "lone wolf" murders in the name of these groups has led directly to the rise in terrorism.
