Guru, Pimchanok Phungbun Na Ayudhya, Published on 27/02/2015

» Sunya Thadathanawong takes travel photos, as well as photos of luxury hotels and statement portraits, for a living. The 34-year-old photographer has a keen eye — and it only serves to help his stomach. Inheriting a love for cooking from his grandmother, Sunya was selected as a contestant of the reality game show The Amazing Food Challenge: Fun In The Philippines 2 (www.asianfoodchannel.com/afcfoodchallenge2). After a series of physically demanding adventure- and culinary-based challenges spread throughout 13 episodes, Sunya emerged victorious over nine other hopefuls from the Asia-Pacific region, taking home a cash prize of US$30,000 (about B980,000).

For the love of beer

» It was 7pm on a recent Wednesday. A few drinkers reclined on bean bags, scattered in the garden of No.26, Ekamai Soi 10, Yaek 2, behind a bright blue gate. Mikkeller sits almost inconspicuously among quiet family homes, though I've ridden in many cabs that know exactly where I am going when I say: "Soi 10 Yaek 2."

American all-star

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 27/02/2015

» If there's one thing America gets right, it's the burgers. Thanks to the Land of Stars and Stripes, Bangkokians are now obsessed with hunting down every burger joint in town, ranking each one and calling ourselves "connoisseurs". Its name might be prosaic, but New York Style Steak & Burger (NYSSB) brings to the table authentic American cuisine in a modern and casual setting. Decked out with industrial furniture and brick walls reminiscent of an eatery in downtown Brooklyn, a hospitable staff serves up generous portions of hearty dishes, making it no surprise that some customers return weekly for their burger fix.
