Business and consumer confidence was markedly higher than in the first six months of the year, especially in the property market, as more buyers visited the sales offices of condominiums and housing estates. Launches picked up further, especially for condominium projects, in the fourth quarter, with both large and small developers active.

Pining for the cold

» In last week’s column I mentioned that I was on the farm repotting bromeliads. A week at our getaway home was most invigorating, not only because I was able to do some gardening, but also because of the climate. Located some 800m above sea level, it is cool there nearly all year round but especially at this time of year. During our stay, night temperatures inside the house ranged between 15 and 18 degrees. Even in the height of summer, the temperature rarely goes higher than 26C.
