» You can try hiding under a rock, but it will still be impossible to avoid this season's it-bag which made massive waves across Thailand when it was first spotted on Balenciaga's runway back in March.

Three's a charm

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 08/09/2016

» One of the most anticipated fashion gatherings of the year is about to be smaller than ever. This year, Fashion Fieldtrip, which features shows by Bangkok's cultishly followed brands, including Asava, Issue and Vickteerut, will be welcoming only 150 spectators. This is a stark difference to the guest list that reached four digits in the past. Whether Fashion Fieldtrip is returning to its roots or is just finding an excuse to downsize in the face of an economic downturn has yet to be seen with how well the shows turn out on Sept 17 at Bangkok City City Gallery. Still, with this relatively new space at Sathon playing host to a handful of highly buzzed and hot exhibitions and events in the past few months, it is in good taste that the three founders of the club decided to hold their fashion/art exhibition inside this popular white box.

» It's a season of fashion exhibitions and every dreamy wild child's shoo-in favourite, Sretsis, also follows suit for autumn/winter 2016. The local superbrand won't be hosting a fashion show this fall -- they've opted instead to introduce their new collection in an exhibition that's nothing short of stunning.

A match made in heaven

» The Haymonds make a couple fittingly posted here in Thailand. Peter Haymond is the US embassy's newest deputy chief of mission-- the No.2 in the line of command after the ambassador -- and is no rookie in Thailand. At a reception held at his ambassador's residence, he made a speech partly in English and partly in Thai, conveniently being able to turn to ask his wife for a better word to use because she, Dusadee, is Thai.

Let them see you sweat

» The major summer sporting season may be ending (tomorrow is the last day of the Paralympics in Rio), but as of late, Thais have never needed any excuse to sport running shoes and sports bras everywhere. Being the exhibitionists we are, people are doing all they can to exhibit their active lifestyle: parading through malls, cafés and even offices in fancy exercising gear. Optional: actually working out. The fitness crowd is increasingly dressing to the nines to exercise, making it much easier on the eyes to take those outfits outside the gym.

A world without newspapers

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 01/08/2016

» Our HR guy tells the straying university students that have a field trip to our office that the future of newspapers could possibly include aromas and 3D. Actually, the latter part already came into fruition with one of our wrap ads, where 3D glasses also were included with the paper for readers to see a particular image. This wasn't a gimmick to bring their attention back to the podium, but a genuine sense of hope, with perhaps a dash of fantasy, that something of the sort would materialise one day. It sounds like a Roald Dahl daydream, but I myself couldn't help but to imagine along how wondrous it would be if I could actually inhale the aroma of the reviewed dishes while reading Friday's food reviews.

A walk through royal fashion

Muse, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 06/08/2016

» To celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s 7th cycle birthday this month, the Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles unveils two stunning exhibitions that are open to the public: “Fit For A Queen: Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s Creations by Balmain” and “Dressing Gods and Demons: Costume for Khon”. The anatomy, culture and history of the khon costumes are shimmery stunners displayed in a dark room in order to preserve gold in certain pieces, but the true stunner is the other exhibition, which features Her Majesty’s wardrobe from the six-month state visit across Europe, where Thailand’s royal couple were formally introduced the West. The legendary Parisian couturier Pierre Balmain was the chosen designer to create all of her clothes and different galleries within the exhibition displays their relationship, which would last until his death in 1982.

Disney for days

Muse, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 06/08/2016

» Two American things Thais really like come together this season. As one of the exclusive projects that celebrate American pop culture and to commemorate Coach's 75th anniversary, the house of leather joins hands with the House of Mouse to create limited-edition bags that play canvas to the world's most famous mouse. With sketches created by Disney's animators, Mickey Mouse sits on the signature glove-tanned leather of totes, bag packs, wallets and messenger bags. Like the previous Peanuts collection, the embossed character at the bottom of the bag is a bit of a blink-and-you'll-miss decoration, but this time, there are bold hang-tags in the shape of Mickey's gloves and face also. If you'd rather proclaim your love more loudly, some bags have the actual Mickey Mouse ear sprouting out from body, which can be spotted a mile away, be it in black or the very red of Mickey's two-buttoned pants. Find the Disney x Coach collection at Coach stores in CentralWorld, The EmQuartier and Siam Paragon.
