» About three years ago, Asean leaders gathered in Jakarta for an emergency summit on Myanmar at which the Five-Point Consensus (5PC) -- entailing the cessation of violence in the country, constructive dialogue among parties to the conflict, the appointment of a special Myanmar envoy and the provision of humanitarian assistance -- was agreed upon with the State Administration Council's (SAC) senior general Min Aung Hlaing.

Lululemon partnership with stylish twist at Masters

Sports, Min Woo Lee, Published on 10/04/2024

» I'm excited to get back to Augusta National for the Masters Tournament as it is a very special event. You're treated so well when you're on property and it's just different to every other golf tournament. It's traditional and old-school where not many people are allowed in the locker room, and you're not allowed on your phone on the golf course, which makes the fans more engaged. It has a really professional and prestigious feel about it.

Free trade in green goods needed

Oped, Albert Park & Jong Woo Kang, Published on 02/08/2023

» International trade has boosted economic growth in many countries, especially those without abundant natural resources or fixed capital. In addition to creating opportunities for cross-border specialisation, trade has made it possible to import cheap consumer goods, intermediate inputs for manufacturing, and capital equipment. This is especially true in Asia and the Pacific, which accounted for 35% of global trade in 2020, up from 25% a decade earlier.

Creating Asean's interconnected energy future

Asia focus, Kar Min Lim and Marko Lackovic, Published on 04/07/2022

» A comprehensive interconnection of Southeast Asia's power grid has been a long-held dream, first emerging into serious discourse in the 1980s. Now, almost four decades later, we might finally be approaching a moment when the pressure for climate action moves this idea towards a more established reality.

Push for online ID law a mistake

News, Kyung Sin Park, Published on 14/06/2021

» News that the Thai government may be considering implementing an internet real name law for social media platforms, to monitor so-called fake news and online harms, is alarming. I know because my country, South Korea, tried the same thing a decade ago and I was part of the process that lead to it being struck down by the Constitutional Court as unconstitutional in 2012.

Innovation in the pandemic age

Asia focus, Zhu Min, Published on 18/05/2020

» The Covid-19 pandemic poses a threat on a scale not seen since the so-called Spanish flu killed more than 50 million people in 1918-19. To confront the scourge, many governments have imposed stay-at-home orders and strict lockdowns, bringing the global economy nearly to a standstill. But the real solution to this crisis is not containment. It is innovation.
