» 'Sustainability" is an increasingly popular term used to signal one's virtue in contemporary public discourse, but it is a poor basis for sound public policy. It conveys a biologist's view of the economy without any of the prudence that economists favour.

Now the 14-year-old plays number games and improves her Thai-language skills on a tablet, reads at least two hours every day after school and recently ranked third in the non-formal primary education exam in Myanmar's Kayin State -- one of the first girls to score in the top five.
